We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially , I wanted to start my own business because I was tired of working for other people. I knew that I wanted to do something that could help me, my family, and my community. With all of the skills and experience I have , it was hard to decide which route take. With the divine intervention, I was blessed with the idea of making jewelry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the biggest things I feel separates me from others is that I am driven by my ability to change peoples lives just by being myself. Over time, I had to realize that being myself was the best way for me to spread and show love. I’m the most proud of the way I am able to connect to people. As a child , I was always infatuated with the idea of love and not just in monogamous relationships, but with friends and family as well. As I’ve gotten older I’ve found ways to show and express that love to everyone I meet! It definitely was not easy because being that I am so loving and caring, people definitely took advantage and abused my love. It took a while for me to accept that and then overcome it. Within that journey I had lost sight of my first love which is music, singing, to be more specific. As I have progressed through my spiritual journey, Imani Blaize was a huge part of my transition into a better understanding of how to navigate life! I’ve learned that you can’t let disappointment stop you from trying. As long as you can maintain a healthy balance and positive mindset, there is nothing in this world that can stop you, unless you let it! D3VIN3 G3MZ came about because Imani noticed my curiosity toward crystals and stones. She encouraged me to make my own when I expressed to her my struggle of not being able to purchase them. She even gave me my first kit which is how I made one of my bracelets that I wear every day. What encouraged me to really pursue it as an actual business was the reactions and I received from my customers at the liquor store where I work! They sparked the light inside me and have been my biggest supporters to this day!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first that would be the varsity because that is Atlanta history. The next day we will spend the entire day at five points because there’s plenty to do out there including food and nice natural shops. Another one of my favorite places to go is Lillys for brunch because not only do they have great food but it’s a great vibe and then we could spend the rest of that day in Piedmont because you never know what could be going on out there. I will also love to take them to the Georgia diner as there is no vibe like it, There’s nothing like southern comfort. Then we will go to the trap museum because that’s just an experience and itself and for dinner we could wrap up at the Hard Rock Cafe with some nice drinks. What is an Atlanta experience without going to the Suite Lounge! It’s a great place for lunch, but if you’re in the mood to party, it gets live after dark! And quite frankly that last day we’d go to the botanical gardens and enjoy all of the natural beauty they have to offer !
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
