Meet Devyn Gomez | Masters Student & Aspiring Sports Media Mogul

We had the good fortune of connecting with Devyn Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devyn, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a career in artistic and creative sports media because I’ve always been drawn to the power of storytelling and the emotional connection sports can create. Sports are more than just games; they’re a reflection of life itself—full of highs, lows, triumphs, and setbacks. As someone who loves both creativity and the world of sports, I realized that this field allows me to combine my passion for art with my fascination for human performance, perseverance, and the drama of competition. As a retired athlete, it’s also an advantage from the storytelling piece of sports media the way I can share my vision and thoughts.
For me, the beauty of sports media is that it’s an ever-evolving canvas. Every moment—whether it’s a game-winning shot, an underdog victory, or a deep, personal journey—offers a chance to paint a new story, to engage an audience in ways that are both impactful and memorable. Being able to capture those fleeting moments through creative visuals, narratives, or sound is not just a job; it’s a privilege.
I wanted to be part of the space where creativity meets the energy of sports, where the narrative of each game is told not only through the score but through the feelings, the crowd, the atmosphere, and the athletes’ stories. And through that, to inspire others to feel that same connection, to remind them of the power sports have to unite, motivate, and excite.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I think of my art, I think of it as my vision. DevynsVision is more than just a sports media brand; it’s a reflection of my passion for storytelling and my commitment to capturing the soul of the game. What sets DevynsVision apart is our focus on the human element of sports—those raw, unscripted moments that make sports such a powerful and emotional experience. While many sports media outlets focus on the highlights, scores, and stats, DevynsVision aims to highlight the stories behind the stats—the personal journeys, the struggles, the triumphs, and the unforgettable moments that resonate with people on a deeper level.
What excites me the most about DevynsVision is the ability to combine creativity with authenticity. Whether through high-quality visuals, thought-provoking commentary, or unique storytelling, I take pride in crafting content that not only informs but also connects with people. I believe every sport tells a story, and every athlete’s journey is worth sharing, no matter how big or small. Our goal is to make those stories feel real, personal, and relatable—whether it’s capturing a critical game-winning play or the behind-the-scenes moments that often go unnoticed.
Although rewarding, the sports media industry is never simple. rewarding in the sense of the satisfaction you get from making an exciting film or speaking with a well-known athlete. I usually ask questions when I’m faced with difficulties. I constantly make sure to comprehend the material I’m dealing with.
I want the world to know that DevynsVision is a brand built on passion, authenticity, and the power of storytelling. At its core, DevynsVision is about seeing sports through a different lens—not just as games, but as powerful narratives full of emotion, perseverance, and human connection. My mission is to bring those untold stories to light, capturing moments that go beyond the scoreboard and focus on the heart of the game.
I’m also committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity in sports media. With DevynsVision, I aim to blend innovative visuals, compelling storytelling, and a fresh perspective to give sports fans something they haven’t seen before. It’s about bringing an artistic touch to the world of sports media—one that makes people feel as much as they think.
Ultimately, I want DevynsVision to be more than just a brand; I want it to be a community where fans, athletes, and creatives come together to celebrate the game in all its forms. A place where everyone can see sports in a new light, and where the stories that truly matter—stories of dedication, heart, and resilience—are always in the spotlight.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area for a week, I’d want to give them a mix of adventure, relaxation, great food, and a deep dive into the local culture. Here’s how I’d plan out the ultimate week-long itinerary, balancing classic spots with hidden gems.
Morning: Start off with a relaxed breakfast at a cozy, local café. If we’re in a city with a strong food scene, somewhere like a farm-to-table brunch spot with fresh pastries, avocado toast, and some killer locally-roasted coffee. (Think something like a local neighborhood gem—a place you won’t find in the guidebooks.)
Afternoon: After breakfast, we’d take a casual stroll around a nearby park, maybe hit up a botanical garden or a scenic waterfront area. I’d want them to see the beauty of the area without feeling rushed. Think about finding a spot with great people-watching and an artistic vibe, maybe even a street art mural tour if that’s a thing in the area.
Evening: Dinner at a popular but not-too-touristy spot, like a local bistro or gastropub with creative cocktails and a seasonal menu. I’d pick a place with a cool atmosphere—maybe a rooftop bar or a cool underground speakeasy to kick off the trip with a unique local drink and a few appetizers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give recognition to my mother, who has been the driving force behind everything I’ve accomplished. Her unwavering support, love, and guidance have shaped who I am today. From a young age, she taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and believing in myself, even when things felt uncertain. She’s always been my biggest cheerleader, whether I was taking risks in my journey, facing challenges, or simply figuring out my path in life.
I will also like to dedicate my shoutout to Nickolas Pope, my Sports Information Director at Life University. Nick has been an incredible mentor, guide, and supporter throughout my journey. His leadership and dedication to the field of sports media have helped through many stages of my journey. He consistently goes above and beyond, not just in the technical aspects of sports information, but in fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and excellence.
Nick’s passion for sports and storytelling is contagious, and his attention to detail and professionalism set the bar for all of us. There are countless others who deserve recognition, but Nick’s influence stands out as foundational to my success, and I’m truly grateful for his mentorship and support.
