We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was honestly lead by The Most High to start my business. I had been suffering with postpartum depression and depression for a very long time. I was taking care of my daughter and my boyfriend at the time. I was going to work, cooking, cleaning, paying bills and I just felt depleted. No one was taking care of me, not even myself. I tried counseling for a few months, but it didn’t help. I was still depressed. So I started looking for healing in other ways and started to use crystals during mediation. I was in awe of how much better I was feeling with crystal mediation and journaling. I started to feel like myself again. Something in my spirit told me to buy a candle making kit, so I bought one and made my first few candles. I loved is so much. Making those candles brought me so much peace. The Most High put the ideal in my head to combine crystals and candles to spread the same healing and peace I had experienced with the world. Shortly after 7even 3ubed was born.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
7even 3ubed is a spiritual candle business I started to spread healing and peace to the world through my crystal candles and crystal infused products. It brings me so much joy when my healing tribe uses my products and tells me how much it has helped them on their healing journey back to them or who they want to become. Often times women especially black women pour so much into others and neglect themselves; so it brings me great happiness to see them using my crystal infused products to pour back into themselves. I like to establish a human connection with my tribe. My tribe can talk to me, voice their concerns, their needs and their wants. This means so much to me especially as a small business soon to be big business; feedback and constructive criticism really helps me to grow. I used to compare my business to other candle businesses, but I realized my business serves a higher purpose and is completely different from other candle businesses. Not only do my crystal candles scent your home, but they lift your spirit and energy. Our products remind you to put yourself and your mental health first.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I honestly don’t go out much, My home is my sanctuary. If a friend came to visit I would probably take them to a local park and have a picnic. We would just spend the day basking in the sun and reading books; just enjoying nature and good food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
She Knew There Was More, a group created by Ms. Tonya Hill Allen for single mothers who want more out of life, but aren’t sure how to obtain it. They really helped me to let go of fear and fully walk in purpose. Also my mentor Ms. Keisha Dixon has helped me so much in developing my spiritual talents and awareness. She is amazing and I don’t know what I would do without her.
