We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was about four years old my mother put me into theatrical arts where we studied music, dance, theater and visual arts. I did this up until the end of my freshman year of high school. Being in that environment for so long helped me to really tap into my creative side to the point where it became apart of my personality. In high school I participated heavily in sports, and I went to college for sports as well, so I was yearning all those years to get back into the creative swing of things. That’s when I took an interest in lash extensions and I saw it as an opportunity to get back to my old artistic self.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love how versatile the lash industry is, and that’s something I struggled with when I first started. I thought that all lash sets were supposed to look a certain way, and if I were to achieve that specific look then I would be at the top. I eventually came to realize that all artists are made different – which is why I stress the term artist rather than “tech”. I had to shift my mindset from comparing to being inspired. I’ve been inspired by so many artist that I’m now able to create my own signature lash sets.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This city is known to be very fun when it comes to nightlife and partying, but there are a lot of nice places to eat and spots to explore. I love a good picnic and places like The Lawn at Ashford Lane, Atlantic Station, Piedmont Park etc. are all great places to unwind. Trying new restaurants and happy hours are one of my favorite pastimes. Divan, Two Four Six, The Hive Buckhead, Octopus Kitchen, are places that I really enjoy for good food and service.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give a lot of credit to my parents for how my career is unfolding. They’ve always supported my choice to start this hobby that eventually turned into my career. They believe in my vision and help out in any way they see fit or when I ask them to.
