Meet DERRICK THOMPSON | DJ BATTIO

We had the good fortune of connecting with DERRICK THOMPSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DERRICK, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After years of Djing late night at Nightclubs and Lounges around New York City and Atlanta G.A and being treated unfairly, i came up with educational platform for Djs in other nightlife professionals to voice their opinion as share stories called the DJS NEED LOVE 2 SHOW. We wanted to take back control in the nightlife with getting paid on time and the correct amount.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider myself to be an audio specialist. Some would say thats a fancy word for a Dj, but ive studied the business, the ins the out, and all that comes with the craft. I started djing in the streets of brooklyn new york. Basketball games, Neighborhood events and local clubs got my name out there as a DJ. I’ve worked as a DJ for companies such as Elektra Records, Rhino Entertainment and others with Artist bringing excitement and energy to any stage. Beside Djing, i enjoy teaching and working as a Register Behavior Therapist for the State of Georgia. Changing behaviors is a passion of mines and im glad i am able to use that skills with everything i do as far as business is concerned.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone came to the A, I would take them to American Deli somewhere on the southside. Then i would take them to the studio where i record my podcast and deal with artist in the music industry. For lunch we would stop at killer burger then stop a business conference because its always something going on in Atlanta. I don’t party or dj in clubs anymore, so i would probably take them to a cigar bar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
DJS ON ALL LEVELS. The younger DJs take a while to come around as they don’t know much about the business, but the og’s are the ones who inspire me to keep pushing the needle forward in the DJ business
