We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrick Snodgrass and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derrick, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
You have to risk something to get something! The type of harvest you get is directly connected to the type of seed you sow. We have to break out of our comfort zones and do what makes us uncomfortable. Faith is spelled R.I.S.K. we live by faith. Taking risks is one of the biggest proponents of success!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I pastor an incredible church in Lake Jackson, Texas called Willow Church! I’m in full time ministry I’m also working on writing my 3rd book. I travel and preach the gospel regularly, and we run our vegan company called “Faux Bones”. I’m proud of our ministry I’m 35 years old and the dynamic of our church really is unique its predominantly Caucasian and I know that a black pastor leading a white congregation is unique and rare. I think the setup of a young black man pastoring a predominantly white congregation of a substantial size blesses a lot of African American people and eases some of the rising racial tensions that we see today. I believe God will use our ministry to help racial reconciliation across the country. I got to where I am today through prayer, and faith, and not giving up. So many times I wanted to quit but I continued to go after my goals. I connected to the right people and got rid of the wrong people and my life began to change for the good. I’m also proud of our vegan bone company because it’s the 1st company of its kind. Although your seeing bone substitutes pop up now there are still no companies apart from us that sale this product. We invented something and created a profitable business! I was elated to go viral a few months ago with over 30k shares and 20 million views. We now sell in various foreign countries and even bulk orders to restaurants.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Surfside Beach to enjoy the ocean! I’d take them to Willow Church to worship the Lord and be inspired, and I would take them to Houston an hour away because it’s a much faster paced city. The restaurant to hit up in Lake Jackson would be Table24!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents Diann and Derrick Snodgrass set a firm foundation and encouraged me to go after my dreams and that nothing was off limits with God! My incredible wife who is a huge support and a constant friend.
