We had the good fortune of connecting with Deron Drummond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deron, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is definitely something I am familiar with. Leaving behind my children in Ohio and uprooting my life was the biggest risk I have taken thus far, but I feel like anyone who is an entrepreneur takes risks. Without risk there is no reward, the bigger the risk the more the reward. Once getting into Atlanta I was able to actually emerge myself into the entertainment industry, once breaking ground in the Atlanta scene after only 2 months, I decided that the well-paying job I had originally received here while I tested the waters, was actually getting in the way. So, I made another risky decision, and quit, devoting all of my time to my cinematography brand, “Your Girls Favorite Camera Man”, I haven’t looked back since. I feel as if in the short time I have been here I have done more in my career here in Atlanta than in 15 years in Ohio, and I was successful in Ohio. This risk has been worth it and I can only imagine where it will take me in the upcoming years.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a self taught gift that as been perfected. I can take something very small and create an entire vision from it. I am very creative from graphic design to cinematography. I only want the best for my clients so that’s what they get. I got here by learning and perfecting the trade, I still have more that I would like to learn and the process has been strenuous, but we are here. I overcame the challenges by continuing to go forward. Moving down here and leaving my children behind in Ohio has been very challenging to me. No matter what I kept pushing forward and kept doing all that I could to get better, Whenever I had an issue or a complication I would call on my team. We would give each other constructive criticism every step of the way. One of the biggest lessons I have learned along the way is to never stop. Even when you feel as if you want to quit, don’t stop before the miracle happens. I want the world to know that there is hard work and dedication around all that I do. I want my brand to speak for itself and tell a story to all the people who see it whether it be the cinematography, photo’s or the videography work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend wanted me to show then around in Atlanta I would take them to all the notorious hip hop locations. The Trap museum is full of amazing things which have been a staple in the hip-hop world in Atlanta. Also we would go to the belt line in Atlanta and make a day of it, with all the shops and eatery’s in the area it is very easy to get lost out there. For and activity filled day, we would definitely go to the aquarium and have a nice day at centennial Olympic park. I love being in the city no matter what and I cant wait to show it off to my friends and family when they come down here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely have to shoutout my team. We all learned together and there was never any issue of pride and ego, which is a rarity in this day and age. We all developed our own crafts within our group. It was just easy to work with them. Mark Smith, Rob Bruce and Lavail Duncan have been part of the staples in my career building. It has been such a gift to have these people on my team. Even when i moved down here from Ohio I have had nothing but love and praise from them. The bond and team we have built while growing our business is one that no one could break. After moving down here I discovered that another one of my Ohio native brothers was here and now he is a part of my Atlanta story, Elijah Lamar and up and coming artist will get my shoutout too as a key player in my new story.
