We had the good fortune of connecting with Derick Womack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derick, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
What I bring to the community/world is a safe place for them to feel comfortable worshipping God. As a Gospel Artist, I find it very important for people to have the freedom to express how they feel in the presence of God. When it comes to expressing feeling, some people may cry, some people make lay before the Lord, or some people may sit with their hands lifted in the air. We all have different ways expressing how God makes us feel. Also, I help the community/world by bringing encouragement. When I perform, It is mandatory that I leave the people with a sense of encouragement. While I encourage others, sometimes I find myself being encouraged by the reaction of those that I’m ministering to. It is a wonderful thing to be apart something that is beyond my control. Everyone has situations going on in their lives, and they’re looking for someone or something that can offer solutions that can guide them to a better place. Whatever the place is, I am grateful to be apart of that solution. I help the community/world by offering Jesus through ministering in song.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Gospel Artist, I’ve been singing for about 14 years. Through those 14 years I have had opportunities to sing on and sharing major platforms with different major artist such as Paul Porter, Jessica Reedy, V.I.P Conference – Pastor John P. Kee, and SMAC Alabama – Dr. Dorinda Clark Cole. These opportunities have taught me different techniques to show during my performances. I have learned how to control my voice, how to control my range, how to control my breathing, and how to control my riffs/runs. What sets me apart from others would be that I am able to be myself whenever I minister. This journey/road has not been as smooth as I expected. In this path there has been heartbreaks, disappointments, ups and downs, hills and valleys, minor setbacks, wanting to give up, and depression. I overcame these challenges by keeping my head up, and keeping the faith in God. These obstacles were allowed to build me up and to keep me humble. I want the world to know that I am trying to be the best me I can be. There may be things that come up against me, but I will always keep a smile on my face no matter what. I want the world to know that I’m doing the best I can to make everyone that believes in me proud. Most of all, I want the world to know that I want to make God smile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am mostly a home-body!! For three day out of the week, me and my best friend would most likely stay in rent movies on the television, and order take out for those days. One day out of the week we”ll go to the mall and shop for clothes, go to the zoo, and then go to a Chinese Restaurant. Another day of the week we’ll go to an amusement park, such as Six Flag, and eat at a Pizza Restaurant. I am more on the chilled side.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes!! I dedicate this shoutout to my Mom’s book Titled ” Edge Control, On The Brink of A Breakthrough”. Also, I dedicate this shoutout to the wonderful Chrystal Rucker, Paul Porter, Claudette Blowe, Vernesia Womack, Derick Womack Sr., and my true Supporters.
