Meet Derek Gibson: Balloon Decor Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derek, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Staying persistent has definitely contributed to my success. This pandemic has definitely brought on a few challenges in how our business in conducted and how it is delivered. However, staying committed to my business during this difficult time has definitely driven me to beat the odds.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
“Let’sGoUp!” is a balloon décor design and delivery service, proudly serving the Atlanta area. As an alternative to traditional floral decor, we offer an array of décor designs that can create a fun-filled, gorgeous atmosphere of magic and beauty with balloons. My parents have owned a florist for over 20 years. Balloons have been an important part of their business. I started my company after noticing a huge surge in customers requesting balloon décor over traditional floral décor. Originally titled “Balloonables,” I later decided to change the name to “Let’sGoUp!” Since I was a teenager, I had been creating balloon decor as a hobby. I’ve always had a passion in balloon art design. There have been alot of challenges and I was unsure I would be successful. However, I prayed and prayed and ultimately took a leap of faith and started from scratch. One lesson I have learned is that hard work definitely pays off. I would like the world to know that I strive for excellence in building this company and work endlessly to make sure everyone who is a part of my team knows and understands how important doing great work is important to me. I want to be an inspiration for other entrepreneurs just like me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to hang out and have fun but I don’t always have the time unfortunately, However, I do like to visit an amusement park or go to dinner at anywhere with live music and great food. When my family or friends visit Atlanta, I like to take them to the best take out “wing stop” spots- they always enjoy visiting the smaller eateries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to all my customers for their continued patronage these past few years. Without them, I would not be able to do what I love.
