We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Broome and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derek, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always had a passion for cooking but I never thought it could become a business. During quarantine, all I did was cook, and post pictures and boomerangs on my Instagram story. Well, after a while and several comments of people telling me they did not know I could cook, in a joking manner I said “well we can go to war in the kitchen” hence the name Kitchen Warz. In trying to develop this business I quickly realized I wanted others to be involved as well. I’ve always been a people person so I figured, I could be the host and use the kitchen as a platform to bring people together. In the mist of this we as a business some how stumbled upon catering to events as well as and are slowly but surely growing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Anyone who knows me knows I work several jobs. My career is in public health but my passion lies in cooking. Bringing Kitchen Warz to life has not been easy and we still have a long road ahead of us. I ask that those who truly support continue to do so, continue to contribute and be along side of this journey because this, this is only the beginning! We are very excited for what the future holds and I cannot wait to revisit this with an abundance of updates and news. This brand is more than about just me, its about giving the people something to be apart of, a way to bond and learn new things. Even if you aren’t a chef, or aspiring to be one, Kitchen Warz is for you. Either entertainment or participation, we encourage you to join us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being that I am a big kid at heart we would definitely hit Complex sports, get some authentic tacos from Taco T’s, drinks from the battery, fat Tuesday to be specific, I have to include bowling at bolwero on Delk road, and Id say a movie at the “Ipic” movie theature, followed with a nice walk in old forth ward park

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This journey would not be possible without my friends for their support, my line brothers for their support, my family, other businesses’ such as Fre&Temps for their wonderful spices, the media team that makes this all possible, Eric Vo and Horace Buckley III. I appreciate everyone who even simply speaks on Kitchen Warz in a positive manner to whomever.
