We had the good fortune of connecting with Dennise Mizell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dennise, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is always being appreciative at every point of the journey. Being appreciative has helped me keep sight of the vision and remembering why I started. I’m able to balance the challenges by being grateful in the mist because it’s often easy to lose hope or become frustrated when things don’t pan out the way you thought they would. This has helped me continue on the journey countless times. I’m absolutely appreciative of the love and support ByMIZELL continues to get daily. My appreciation is just a small symbol of the push and drive that is created from it because the support is everything. Without it the brand would nothing.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ByMIZELL focuses on the modern confident woman and creating the luxury lifestyle that shes entitled to. The clothes make the girls feel confident, expensive, bold and unshakeable. I believe in curating a brand that caters to black women and making them the focal point. Where they’re never the number two. Where self love is grown from within and boldly reflected on the outside. All while being fashionable, making statements to the world and looking gorgeous. I want black women to always choose themselves first. Know that it comes with territory and proceed anyhow. The only challenges that it took to get here was realizing this all within myself. Granting myself the same self love that I want the girls to pour out for themselves. That took some evaluation and self-awareness. Healing from trauma and recognizing who I absolutely am. This message needs to be passed on. We’re absolutely priceless, worthy, and able to be who we are boldly, with sexiness or in comfort. We deserve to live luxurious lives and it starts with giving it to ourselves.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because I’m actually from Charlotte I would make the weekend long trip here. Places to eat would be: 1. Restoration Hardware. THIS is such an amazing place for a luxe atmosphere, pictures, and a good lunch or brunch with mimosas between you and your best girls. 2. LeRoy Fox. The food is amazing also a great place for brunch. The chicken and waffle are amazing. 3. CO. An awesome Japanese style restaurant. Has the best ramen and dark but elegant atmosphere. **Bonus**Midnight dinner. This is an end of the party night place BUT the infamous grits are what gets you to come back faithfully. -sidenote: I love brunch. Southend would be a great place to just go and site see or go to a walk-in candle making class or something of that nature. There you can also stop by Jeni’s ice cream for some deliciousness. Birkdale Village is a go to for some shopping (North Charlotte) in a peaceful setting. Lots of boutiques to shop and much more. Speaking of boutiques because I’m a huge supporter of black women stopping by Captivate boutique in South Park mall is an excellent place to shop that keeps the luxury feels for the girls. The owner Charity is the first black woman to own a space in the South Park so definitely run it up there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my customers and supporters. I believe my purpose is dedicated to those who invest in my brand. I want them to receive all the love, all the empowerment, all the joy they deserve. I want them to know that they are seen and even if we grant praises to ourselves and each other then thats all the praise we need.
