We had the good fortune of connecting with Denell Porché and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denell, what principle do you value most?
The greatest principle I have arrived to and just recently infused within my way of living, honoring my pursuit of life is the principle of joy. Being guided by the principle of joy, I exist as a living testament of the matters of my heart, my desires. For most of my life upon observation and reflection, I have been living other people’s definition of joy. If I were to dissect their definition further, I have come to find in truth, it has been the pursuit of their fears; no judgment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I am a fellow Light-worker who uses poetry and song to inspire (hopefully) people to go for their healing their way. My hopes is their selection is more helpful than harmful. I am an artist who has hosted projects encouraging those to know just how precious they are and pursue their freedom to be. This of course is to what I understand now, didn’t necessarily have the clarity when I originally started. I simply desired to create. My mom heavily involved me in many activities as a child. I was exposed a lot to an assortment of things to formulate a growing mind. As I reflect, it was always something with the arts that inspired me. Shout out to Nelly School of Dance in Fairfield, Ohio! From there, there were the involvement in choirs within the community at school and church. My influences have been Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, & EnVogue. I was all the women in EnVogue.
It has taken commitment and trust up to this point because I was challenged every step of the way. The challenge involved me more than anything or anyone; second guessing and doubting myself. I admit, I was my own enemy through it all. It got down to trusting what naturally exuded me. Today, I don’t fight it anymore. It has been truly rough battling what I naturally am.
I have learned to be your own way, no more, no less. You have the answers you seek. I had mine all the time. It took me to release the bias, views, and judgments I had towards myself so I could live a life that is mine. It comes effortless when I get out of my way.
Currently, I am rebranding myself with a new logo and lessons, everything. I’m working with 3 words speaking to my present state as an artist: Revive, Restore, & Sustain. In reviving yourself, you restore. This leads to a substantial life, honoring your way of being. Of course there is more to unpack under these concepts, so come join me. With these teachings, these lessons you get songs and poetry along the way to offer peace within your soul and things to contemplate for your healing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG, I feel so shame. My night life, day life comings and goings have come minute. I recently went to the Belt-Line, which is AMAZING by the way, in Atlanta, GA. I enjoy festivals. In reflection and in that week, I would take my bestie to the Belt Line then to a festival like the Jazz Fest that is coming up. Definitely Slutty Vegan. Sidebar, do you know I waited two years before I went there!!!! YUM-MY!!! And my favorites, Apache because you never know who you might see come through! Last time I went, Chrisette Michelle came through… I melted. I miss the singers. I do enjoy open mics so it may be at least two visits.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh my family!!! They are my advocators and champions for sure. “Hey family… T… Dub… Mom & My Dad!!!!” Also the universe who brought people in to support every project and lesson associated with each project. Couldn’t see it then, grateful now. Wouldn’t be the woman I am and transformed to exist as. Sidebar, this includes those not so friendly encounters. “Universe, keep it coming! Conspire for this girl!!!”
