Meet Demetrius Williams | Photographer & Avid Traveler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetrius Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demetrius, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe that the most important factor behind the success of my brand is adaptability – especially in today’s climate. The ability to discover different means to safely take care of my clientele is paramount to the continued success of my brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am what some would call a “painter of light”; more commonly known as a photographer. I am inspired by life in general, and can usually be spotted with camera in hand snapping any and everything that catches my eye. I enjoy bringing out the NATURAL beauty in anyone I photograph without the heavy editing/airbrush that has become a standard. As most creatives will tell you, this journey is NOT easy. It requires a lot of patience, perseverance, and an awareness of self-worth. The hardest aspect for me to overcome was knowing (and charging) my worth. Fortunately, I have great friends and family who have pushed me over the years and boosted my confidence. A major lesson I have learned is that one MUST know their worth to be respected by others. What I am most proud AND excited about is the launch of my photography retreats. I created the retreats as a means for photographers to visit and experience destinations they might not normally visit. They serve as an opportunity for us to gain inspiration, photograph beautiful locations, and continue to hone our craft. Destinations thus far include Havana, Cuba; Lima and Cusco, Peru; and Marrakesh, Morocco.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am just off Marietta Square in Marietta, GA – so we would start there and have Sugar Cakes Patisserie (breakfast). Among my favorite areas is Little 5 Points in Atlanta, a favorite area for artists with beautiful murals and delicious eateries (One of my favorite burger spots there is The Vortex on Moreland Ave). Also near that area is another of my favorite breakfast haunts; Highland Bakery. The Georgia Aquarium is another amazing experience. We would DEFINITELY have to head over to Ponce City Market for a show at City Winery. Over the weekend (once Atlanta nightlife resumes), Edgewood Avenue has no shortage of activities to partake in. Historical MUSTS in our fair city: The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a POWERFUL experience. The Auburn Ave Historical district is also a must-do (The childhood home of Martin Luther King, Jr, Ebenezer Baptist Church, The King Center.)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe (and dedicate) much of my success to my father Chandos Carl Williams as well as my mother and sister (Joan L Williams and Chandra T Guy)
