We had the good fortune of connecting with Delshun Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Delshun, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My children. Since my children were born I’ve always set the goals as college or entrepreneurship. But for them to achieve this task, I understood that I myself, had to be a good example. I dabbled around with a few entrepreneural ventures until photography found me. Now that I am running a successful photography business, I feel as if I am being a good example for my children. Oh, and I also graduated college as well. Leaving a legacy for them is non-negotiable!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other business is the value and quality I offer. As a businessman I had to learn ways to stand out from other creatives. In doing so I learned that it’s not always about having the best this or biggest that but what I can offer that’s of value to the client that others don’t.

My most exciting moment was being selected as one of this year’s photographers for Greenville, SC Fashion Week. I tried for the last two years and this year I finally got the email I was looking for.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy at all. I am father, a husband, I work a full time job and I run a photography business. I am literally ALWAYS doing something. It takes a lot of sacrifice. A lot of 16 hour days. I have a no-excuse mindset. No matter what my goal is to get it done.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is investing in a good contract. I don’t care if I’m doing business with my sister, she’s signing a contract. Contracts protect the client but most importantly you as a business!

I want the world to know that I am a customer service driven business. My business is 80% customer service and 20% camera. If you have a excellent product, but terrible customer service, your business will not thrive. At Sure Shot Photography, we operate with honesty and integrity! Nothing less!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First place is downtown Greenville to a popular Jamaican spot called Jamaica Mi Irie. I love the oxtails and they love me 😁. Next day I’ll well take a hiking trip up to Paris Mountain. Friday we’ll go down to the small town of race shoals where we can soak up the drag racing scene. If I’m feeling good I may make a couple passes on ym motorcycle. Finish things up Saturday night back Downton enjoying the shenayod the city. There’s always something to do down there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to shout out my sister in love Adrianna Brooks. I purchased my first DSLR camera just to capture moments of my children and she noticed that my images we’re actually good. She’s a blogger so she has that artistic eye. One day she said, “You know you could get paid good money for this. You could charge $50 for a photoshoot and if you have 10 sessions a month, that’s a extra $500 in your pocket.” It was at that very moment I started thinking of a name for this new business lol. I had no intentions at all to monetize photography. It was just a hobby. I am very grateful to her for opening up my eyes and showing me that I could turn my hobby into a successful business that I am passionate about.
