We had the good fortune of connecting with Delonso Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Delonso, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My own business was suppose to be in the music industry. Running my own recording label as well as producing music myself. Who knew my at the time, my 6 year old son would change the course of my life. The name of my fatherhood organization is Daddy Everyday Inc., that title came from my son. One day I was helping him with his homework and he placed his head on my shoulder and said I love it when you help me with my homework, you are my daddy everyday. It was my lightbulb moment. That night, I typed “Daddy Everyday” at the top of a document on my laptop and let the spirit move me from there. I would go on to write “Daddy Everyday, Rewriting The Black American Dad Story”. After the success of that, I was encouraged by others to start an organization for fathers based on the book. I’ve had speaking engagements at libraries, schools and major companies including Gatorade. My books have sold throughout the United States and internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom and China. Who knew, helping my son with his homework would lead me to my divine purpose.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are currently raising funds to donation thousands of copies of Fresh Start For Dads, Reconnecting After Prison & Absenteeism to incarcerated fathers in Georgia. Then, donating to all the states across the Untied States. Most of the social ills impacting children such as teen pregnancy, high school dropout rate, drug use and criminal activity, to name a few, are linked to having incarcerated fathers. The traumatic experience of losing a parent to incarceration put children at risk to a variety of emotional and behavioral problems. My goal with issuing Fresh Start For Dads is to empower fathers with knowledge on how to combat the problems their children may be experiencing as well as aid them in their journey to getting a fresh start.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m big on walking, people watching and eating, so I would take my best friend to Little 5 Points and The Atlanta BeltLine. We would grab some grub from The Vortex, I love a good burger. Walk over to Criminal Records and Wax N Facts to add to my budding vinyl collection. Walk and talk about all the variety of fashion that can be seen at Little 5 Points. While we are there, take dozens of cool photos. Hopefully there’s a show to catch later that night because I know there’s plenty of places to grab a drink. The next day we will spend it all on The Atlanta BeltLine. I have to make sure my best friend has her walking shoes on because we are going to be putting in miles on the BeltLine. So much to see on the BeltLine that will completely lose ourselves in the beauty, variety and hidden gems. Of course, would stop by the Ponce City Market for food and maybe a little shopping. If we get a little tired from all the walking, we can take a bus tour of the Atlanta BeltLine.I’ve never taken the bus tour, so it would be a new experience for me as well. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to Shoutout KD Bowe of The ManUp! Community. This brother drops weekly uplifting and motivating messages for men. In addition, I’m currently in his online bootcamp entitled ManUp! Certified and it’s amazing. Thanks to KD Bowe, I am growing as a man and my fatherhood organization and the fathers I serve will benefit from his growth. Big Shoutout to KD Bowe.
