We had the good fortune of connecting with Delilah Null and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Delilah, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was struggling with anxiety and depression a few years ago and I’ve always been interested in self-development, mental health, spirituality and self-care so I took the holistic wellness journey.

One day I attended a yoga class at one of our local wellness studios and I wore my hair in this big poof. I walked in and immediately noticed that I was the only Black girl in that class. And you know that look you get when you walk into a room of older white women and they give you this very uncomfortable smile and then they make eye contact with each other and it makes you feel like they aren’t used to seeing you there and maybe you should go? That was the vibe. And to make things worse after class they followed me around the store and accused me of stealing crystals.

This event was kind of traumatizing for me, but I still wanted to practice yoga and learn about holistic healing. The problem was finding a place within wellness that catered to Black women. At the time Facebook groups were very popular and I have already created a few but for this Facebook group I saw is as an opportunity connect Black women over the same interest- wellness.

I wanted to create a safe space for women online to learn about how to completely elevate their lives and prioritize their well being and then the idea took off. I grew that community to 60 thousand women across the globe in 3 years.

It was crazy to see the amount of Black women that were healing from so many different experiences but also sharing those experiences within community. This online space back a resource for Black women to be emotionally fed.

And I that this was it! This is what was need to help advance the collective. We need community. And that filled me with so much inspiration.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Black Girl’s Healing House is an online wellness community for Black women. We know that Black women want to elevate into the best version of Themselves. In order to do that, they need complete grounding in their mind, body and spirit from a community that honored them. The problem is that wellness spaces are not that diverse and that makes us feel alienated. We believe that Black women deserve to live a WELL life. We understand that the lack of cultural competency in healing practitioners makes it difficult to prioritize wellness which is why we created the first of its kind wellness marketplace for Black women.

There are a lot of ups and downs in the founder life. I contribute 100% of my success to finding community for myself as a founder. As people we need our 5th worlds. We have our family world, friend world, romantic worlds, work worlds and then we have that 5th world that we prioritize. For some its a sorority, basketball team, church family and for others these worlds exist completely online and they are curated with people who share experiences with us and resources. Entrepreneurs need more spaces like that so that we can learn from each other,
