We had the good fortune of connecting with Dedry Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dedry, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I’ve never really known when or how to give up in the things I do. One of my family’s belief systems is to never give up, and I’ve never done so. As a result, I just keep going with whatever I do and keep pushing through no matter what. There has been so much stuff with my DJing that I don’t know how I am supposed to do, and there are still things that I can’t do yet so I have to keep practicing. Although I have more to learn, I look forward to pushing myself further and never limiting myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a DJ and I am only 13 years old trying to be great. I am excited about the people that I will meet and proud of everything that I have done up to this point to get here to even be interviewed on a magazine. I got here because of my mom and uncle’s helping me out along the way and it was not easy I had to practice a lot and still do have to practice a lot to not be rusty and have to learn new skills to entertain the audiences. I want the world to know you can do anything

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love sushi so I would take them to my favorite sushi spot Tanakas and visit the rooftop at Ponce City Market to play arcade games.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my uncles Antoine and Jamar. They deserve a lot of credit for my success. Both of them are DJ’s. For Christmas, they got me a dj board and taught me a little just as a hobby and something fun to do. I didn’t really envision turning it into a business until my mom’s friends would ask me to dj for different events. It turned into something I never expected. I remember my Uncle’s being there for my first gig and how nervous I was. They were there for me every step of the way and cannot thank them enough. Check out my uncle @djblackhat on IG.
