Meet Debbie Wright | Actress, Writer, Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debbie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
That there is a lot of time and hard work that goes into acting. There is no such thing as an overnight success. You have to put a lot of work and time into classes, auditioning, workshops and honing your craft. For every role that is up for grabs a casting director might receive 4000 submissions. They narrow that down to 40 or 50 people who they choose to audition and only one person gets the role. You have to be okay with rejection!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Acting became a passion of mine after I was background on a movie. I was fascinated and wanted to learn more. My path was set and I jumped in full steam ahead. There is so much more to acting than most people know. Besides the art itself, now actors need to know how to tape themselves making sure the lighting, video and audio are good quality. Then there is editing. Finally, you send your own tape to your agent or casting director for submission. I am continually learning and adding more skills to my resume. My proudest accomplishment so far has been writing, producing and acting in a half hour short film, “Horseshoe Bend”. The things I learned making that film are too numerous for this article! There are lessons learned also and maybe by reading this someone else will not have to live the same lessons. There are people in this business who will try to take advantage of you. In more ways than one if you understand what I mean. Not all agents are the same. Do your research before signing. Not every other actor is your friend. I have an AWESOME acting tribe but there are some people who would have no problem stepping on you if it furthers their career. So… ignore all the negatives, love what you do and enjoy life!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve grown fond of Buckhead. So many nice shops and places to eat. I also enjoy spending time outdoors at Centennial Olympic Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I dedicate my success to my husband Tom. He is my biggest cheerleader and supporter. He puts up with me! I have had some amazing coaches helping me along the way as well. Amy Lyndon brought me from being an almost complete newbie to knowing how to audition properly. Judd Lormand (Blackburn on Seal Team) has been an amazing mentor me. The progress I’ve made since working with him has been 1000%. I have a tribe that supports each other through thick and thin. I’m not sure if I could do this without them. Get Scene Studios is another I would like to mention. All have put me where I am now.
