We had the good fortune of connecting with DeaRonda Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeaRonda, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?

My business provides full service grant writing for businesses across the globe. However, smaller, up-and-coming organizations don’t always have the resources to retain a quality grant writer. Mix in the fact that organizations led by folks of color often face an unfair funding gap, my mission is to tackle this inequality head-on. While I’m building my team, it’s a must that I offer credible grant writing services to these smaller organizations led by people of color. That’s why I’ve just rolled out affordable grant writing services tailored just for them.

Imagine this: supporting 1,000 organizations with top-notch grant writing services. If we play it cool and each group scores a $10,000 grant, the potential ROI could hit a whopping $10M. What a transformation for the organizations and the communities they serve!

Our gig isn’t just about numbers, though. We’re all about amping up our positive influence and backing rising small businesses. We’re here to school folks about grants, how they really work, and to avoid sketchy schemes and wasting cash on grant scammers. We are working to hand out the tools, wisdom, and open doors to funding chances they deserve. And that’s just the start.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

June First Firm has helped social enterprises that are changing the world for the better – winning awards totaling $35M. Some organizations include maternal child health resources for black mothers, education resources for students at under-resourced schools, and job training and upskilling for housing insecure indiviudals. My specialty is serving organizations that are typically challenged with obtaining resources and lack the knowledge on how to win grants. What sets June First Firm apart is our commitment to quality over quantity. I prioritize aligning with the right clients and frequently refer those who aren’t the perfect fit to my colleagues. This ensures I can provide top-notch service to those I work with.

My proudest achievement is the journey itself. The path is not always easy, but it’s been worth every step. Hearing a stranger at a business meeting say that I inspire her because she’s been following my journey was a powerful reminder that what I do makes a meaningful impact.

I find strength in my network to overcome challenges – surrounding myself with those who have figured things out. Their insights and mentorship helped me navigate obstacles and grow. Learning from those who’ve been there is invaluable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Get ready for an unforgettable week of Atlanta adventures with my best friend! Our Friday night would kick off with side-splitting laughter at one of the city’s top comedy shows, setting the tone for an incredible weekend ahead. Afterward, we’d head to Your 3rd Spot, where we would enjoy a round of fun games.

Saturday would begin with a hearty breakfast and then hanging out at the pool until the evening approaches to treat ourselves to a scrumptious dinner at steakhouse. Sunday’s agenda would feature a leisurely brunch at the beloved Toast in midtown, followed by a laid-back hangout at the Battery Atlanta, where we’d soak up the atmosphere and explore the enticing spots.

As Monday rolls around, we’d dive into Atlanta’s rich history and culture with a visit to the Atlanta History Center, gaining insights into the city’s past and present. Tuesday would bring a touch of adventure as we explore the Atlanta Beltline for shopping, food and the best place to snap pictures.

Wednesday would be dedicated to learning as we visit the Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta to explore the history and struggle of human rights around the world today.  Our Thursday would wind down with a relaxing picnic and people-watching at Piedmont Park, one of the city’s iconic oases. Throughout this action-packed week, we’d explore Atlanta’s diverse neighborhoods, savor its mouthwatering cuisine because who can’t get enough good food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big shoutout goes to the real MVP in my journey – my loving mother. From day one, her unwavering support, guidance, and love have been the driving force behind my success. She has always been my biggest cheerleader since Day 1.

When I first dreamt of starting my business, she was right there with me, making sure I had all the tools I needed – from printers to the best laptop computer. She even became the ultimate office chair detective! Daily, she’d ask, “Who did you meet today? What’s the latest on the business front?” Her belief in me was rock-solid from the get-go, and as my business blossomed, her support only grew stronger.

She’s the constant force that keeps me going, checking in every single day, asking about my progress, and offering encouragement that’s more valuable than words can express. Her unwavering faith in me, even during challenging times, has been so helpful. So, here’s to you, Mom – the one who constantly pushes me and the reason I keep going. Thank you for everything.
