We had the good fortune of connecting with Dayna Francis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dayna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are something that I am very familiar with especially when it comes to my growth in life. I look at risk-taking as trusting the unknown and giving birth to something greater. It is pursuing something without knowing the desired outcome, but having faith that all will fall into place. It’s developing faith in yourself and God that if you plant your seed, water it daily by hard work and dedication you will reap the fruits of your labor. Risk-taking is something I approach confidently and full of faith. I developed the mindset that if I put in the creativity, hard work, effort, and stay consistent everything will fall into place to aid my success. My biggest risk was moving to LA for love without any prospective employment opportunities. I was a PA/ Clearance Coordinator at the time working in production and thought it would be easy for me to thrive in LA. Mainly due to the fact that I was moving to California and it is known for productions. Reality hit and finding a gig was a bit difficult. Still, I stayed consistent and reached out to contacts, applied to jobs, and finally an old EP I worked with contacted me with a job offer. I got offered my first producer position. Taking the risk to move to LA fostered growth in my career and expanded my network. My second biggest risk was starting Dionne Swim. I was not an entrepreneur but a television producer. At the time I was in between shows and looking for what was next. I got a creative spark to start an e-commerce swimsuit business and Dionne Swim was born. I noticed that a lot of smaller businesses on Instagram were primary clothing boutiques and bigger brands held the swimwear market. I already had a passion for travel, fashion, and producing therefore it aligned perfectly. I came up with my brand incorporating my middle name “Dionne” and adding swim. I set a drop date, found a small production team, and went from there. I utilize the skills I have acquired in production and successfully produce my own Dionne Swim shoots. I am full of gratitude that I decided to try a new recipe and not stick to my norm. The recipe is called “Risks”. It enhanced my taste, insight and afforded me new experiences that enhance my growth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dionne Swim is a luxury vacation line made in Los Angeles, fusing intricate print work, vibrant colors, and cuts. Each piece is handpicked to ensure that the fabric, quality, and overall aesthetic are held to the highest standard. At Dionne Swim, Every BODY has a swimsuit body because we are all perfect. We dictate what a swimsuit body is and encourage self-love. We are not just a vacation brand, we encourage, motivate, inspire and value our customers which sets us apart from the rest. When I started Dionne Swim, I knew I wanted to do more than just sell swimwear and apparel. I knew I wanted to be a light that influences, inspires, and motivates. I use Dionne Swim not only as an outlet to generate revenue but as a form of women empowerment. I created a blog called “The Edit” on the Dionne Swim website which I contribute to. I write posts that inspire, motivate, encourage goal setting, aid in weight loss, and growth.  This definitely sets us apart because Dionne Swim is not just selling products but adding value.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week-long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me for a week I would take them hiking at Runyon Canyon, Sightseeing, Art galleries, Universal Studios and Disney. We would of course hit Malibu Beach and enjoy Santa Monica Pier. We would grab drinks at the Bungalow and rooftop bars. Our nights will be filled with dining at Geoffrey’s, Catch, Crustaceans, Ysabel’s, and Katana.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my amazing sisters. The woman that God is molding me into has a lot to do with the unconditional love and support that I receive from my sisters. Having 5 sisters and growing up family-oriented, I am very fortunate to be apart of a sisterhood of transparency, creativity, love, fun, and support no matter what. My sisters motivate and inspire me every day to the greatest woman on this earth and support all of my endeavors. My oldest sister Dawnique in particular deserves the biggest shoutout. She encourages and motivates me to keep being great. Dawnique reminds me that I can do all things and that there is no such thing as “doing too much”. She is my biggest supporter no matter what; from supporting my businesses, giving me advice, and being apart of some of my creative decisions. My sisters are the fuel to my fire and I would not be who I am without them.
