We had the good fortune of connecting with Davion Mackie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davion, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson I’ve learned while being a barber is to always accept failure. Accepting failure played a huge role in my career in so many different ways. Once you realize failure is just a opportunity to grow, your whole mindset just becomes more open.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud to say that I’ve built many loyal relationships with my clients & others in the hair/barber industry. In this generation it’s hard to actually find genuine people so I’ll always be grateful about that.
Staying consistent might be the biggest factor of why I’ve made it this far in my career. Staying motivated, positive, & transparent will always help with overcoming any challenges life may bring to you down your road to success.
I want the world to know that it’s never to late to pursue any dream you have. You only get 1 life so while your here you have to make the most out of every single day. Always go hard for yourself, your brand, and your people.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends were to come to the city I’ll recommend a few spots. Bowling alley would be on the schedule first. You can’t go wrong with bowling & drinks. Another spot would be just going downtown Detroit. It’s so many different places to eat, clubs, casinos and more activities to do down there. It’s like a all in one place to be, downtown will not disappoint you at all.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shout-out would always have to go to both my mom & my step mom. I can’t describe how supportive they were for me, mentally & financially while being so proud of anything I did. Before quitting my full time job to actually pursue my career my parents & friends were always motivating me to be a better person. I’m thankful for everybody who contributed in any kind of way for me, I’ll never forget it. – R.I.P Mom
