We had the good fortune of connecting with David Yakubov and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
When I first starting my business, I was taught an acronym. It was OOSOOM, which stands for, “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”. Over the years, I believed that just meeting some people would be enough but everyone has their lives that they need to focus on. It’s unreasonable to expect them to reach out to you. You have to maintain the relationship by getting in front of them somehow. Whether it’s through social media or even just reaching out to see how they are doing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is how I go about performing. I believe that magic is something that you should experience rather than just observe.

While I definitely do the same sets for different people, each person draws different experiences because I try my best to tailor my magic to the audience.

I feel like I got to where I am through pure luck. It’s easy to forget the countless hours I’ve spent practicing, performing, and perfecting what I do. When I first started, it was purely passion. I didn’t believe that people would pay for my services but here we are and I couldn’t be more proud.

I believe it’s important for me to remember that I’m always on stage. And that’s why I don’t put on a persona when I perform. I’m just me and I want to see the world smile. I think that makes it so much easier to come across as someone who is genuine because I don’t have to force it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I personally love this bar in Brookhaven called Righteous Room. I got my start there and I stuck a card on the ceiling that’s been there for more than a year now.

Iberian Pig in Buckhead has amazing tapas and you could walk to a speakeasy called The Blind Pig after dinner.

If you want authentic flavor from Oaxaca, I’d visit Chido & Padres.

Nam Phuong off of Buford Hwy has some of the best Vietnamese food you’ll have, in my humble opinion.

Finally, I think Little Spirit is something that everyone should experience. The vibes there are immaculate and unmatched.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout out to Little Spirit at Inman Park, specifically Jordan. She has been incredibly supportive of my craft and has taught me a thing or two.
