We had the good fortune of connecting with David Gil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
• Thought process behind starting new business

In 2014, I began working for a power washing company. During the time as an employee. I was on the road meeting new people, new places; while learning the tricks and trade of the business and learning how to provide exceptional customer service. As time went by, I became one of the crew leaders and had a team learning from me. At this time, both the owner of the company along with our customers/clients were inpressed by the service I was providing. Many times, home and business owners would ask if the company belonged to me. And that sparked the desire in me to one day become an entrepreneur. In the year 2020, unfortunately, the pandemic hit us all and the company that I had worked for the last 6 years, had to shut down. My ambition and new found passion in this business allowed me to begin the journey of becoming my own boss and introduce M.B.C Power Washing LLC to the world. I am 39 years old, with Dominican parents, oldest of 6 siblings. I was born in New York City and moved to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 15. When M.B.C Power Washing LLC began, I was 37 years old living in Lebanon, Pennsylvania with my family. I am a husband, father of 3 children and 3 dogs. I had to make the decision of moving M.B.C Power Washing LLC to a place where I knew it could become what it can be. It was time to put action behind my thoughts and dreams. After a year of starting M.B.C Power Washing LLC, I moved my family and my company back to my 2nd home of Atlanta, Georgia.

• Conventional advice that you disagree with

“Do what you love and money will come to you”
“Competition is your enemy ”

While I understand the meaning behind both pieces of advice often times given to someone starting off, I disagree. I wholeheartedly believe in doing what you love, but a lot of thought, planning and physical work comes to play in order for money to come to you. Even then, it takes a while for you to be able to see a profit most times. I also believe that without competition, you will never have examples to learn from to be the best that you can be in whatever you choose to do. Opening the lines of communication with others, especially your peers brings more business for everyone.

• Risk taking

I believe that you should always take risks if it means bettering yourself and your family. For example, at the start of M.B.C Power Washing LLC, my family and I took the risk of using our personal income to start the company without the help of bank loans, grants, etc because we believed that it would all be worth it and it couldn become something bigger than we can even fathom. After almost 2 years of the company being up and running, I can say that as the CEO of M.B.C Power Washing LLC, all of the risks were well worth it and has made me a better and more appreciative business owner.

• Habits

Growing up in Newnan, Georgia, I played football for Newnan High School. At an early age. I not only learned to thrive but also learned how to set goals and achieve them. Being raised as the oldest of 5 boys and 1 girl who were always watching and learning from me in a Dominican household; organization, responsibility, ambition, leadership along with cleanliness was something that came natural to me. My mother always said, ” Cleanliness is close to godliness.” And I have always carried that with me.

• Important factor behind success

The most important factor behind my success in my business would be honesty, transparency, dedication and quality of service with affordable and competitive prices that I put behind in every project whether it may be in labor, customer service, marketing, equipment/products and branding. “We treat your project as our own.” For every project, we at M.B.C Power Washing LLC we strive to give our very best as if we are working on our own. Our goal is to provide professional service with exceptional results and strive to involve all of our customers/clients throughout the entire process to ensure that they are satisfied with the outcome.

• Important lesson business/career has taught you

Consistency, setting goals, believing in my brand and not being complacent has been the most important lesson that I have learned. I always try to remain a student and always willing to learn to become bigger and better. And as a new entrepreneur, I’ve learned there are always high and low days, but I should always show up for myself, my business but most importantly for my customers/clients.
If you believe in your brand and what it can become- just by you showing and giving your best, you are destined to succeed.

• Work life balance

I have learned that a consistent/organizrd schedule is the key to balancing home and work life. After predominantly being on the road for the 7-8 years, having dedicated time for my business separate from time with my family has allowed me to succeed in the 2 most important roles in my life. Part of my journey has been learning to find the balance at home with my family, enjoying our time together, supporting eachother and also appreciating the personal successes and support. But also having the dedicated time needed to be the CEO of M.B.C Power Washing LLC.

• How did you come up with the idea for your business

As teenagers, my cousins and I growing up in Bronx, NY were known as M.B.C. back then it meant to who knew us as Must Be Creative. We found ourselves individually and as a a group of teens through the art, fashion and music culture of the 90s in NYC. When it came time to pursue my dream in my new found passion and starting my business, I felt the need to pay homage to my family and upbringing through M.B.C but now respectfully known as Must Be Clean Power Washing LLC.

• Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career

I enjoy working on a project with vision of what the end result would be. Whether it may be residential, commercial or automotive, when I start a project, often times I find them in a dirty, forgotten, full of mold and mildew( which is one of the leading causes of asthma and other sicknesses that are harmful for your, children, pets and just deteriorates your property. Also causes slips and falls when wet that can cause harmful physical injuries.) After MBC Power Washing LLC is done with your project, your space is bright, clean and sanitized with a guarantee of your satisfaction with added value to your home or place of business.

• What are you inspired by

My family and closest friends is my biggest support system. But my children are my inspirations. Watching my children witness me become an entrepreneur and having them show their respect fascination inspires me to do more every day. When my 13 year old son sees a project that I have completed and says- “Hey dad, wow what a difference, good job man” that alone gives me more motivation and inspiration and keeps me non complacent. My goal is to help others and inspire them while providing for my family while teaching them work ethics but also give others opportunities whether it may be through employment or mentor others to pursue their own dreams. While driving through Atlanta, I am inspired that with one project at a time, MBC Power Washing LLC can be a part of making the city of Atlanta more beautiful than it already is.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me and M.B.C Power Washing LLC apart from others in the business is the quality of work I offer, the involvement my company allows to my clients in all of our projects. I strive to always remain consistent and dedicate. I understand that every project is different from the next and deserves it’s own process in cleaning. What I am most excited about is watching the growth of M.B.C Power Washing LLC. I get very excited when I see parts of my goals list being crossed off for example when I reach a new level of amount of work being booked for a set period of time, the size of the jobs being booked, working with well-known clientele in the community.) I am proud of my hard work being noticed and acknowledged. I am proud of my ideas and hard work becoming a successful brand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When at home in Atlanta, I enjoy frequenting many places. I enjoy Mamajuana lounge in Lilburn, Georgia, also Papi’s Cuban & Caribbean Grill in Atlanta for delicious spanish food, drinks and music. When out with the family, we love to visit Six Flags over Georgia, The Atlanta Botanical Gardens and the beautiful Atlanta Aquarium. We enjoy spending many Friday nights at the Dave and Buster’s in Lawrenceville for games and food as a family and it also has a bowling alley. My family and I enjoy family night at the Rooftop at the 9 mile station where we play mini golf, plus shopping and night life at the Underground in Atlanta. I am a frequent visitor at the On Target Gun Range in Peachtree City when I have some me time. I also do a lot of work at Atlantic Station in Atlanta. Atlantic Station is full of business, events, shopping, restaurants and just a place to spend some casual time. Georgia is a beautiful state, and Atlanta is a beautiful city with many things to do with the family or just for yourself.
