We had the good fortune of connecting with Daverine Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daverine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Over the years I realized my gifts and the feeling of fulfillment they would bring whenever I began to put them to use. As my life changed in the last 5 years I could not see myself doing the typical 9-5 as my only way of survival. What would life be if I wasn’t able to identify my purpose and actually earn from it while being a blessing to others ? I thought about the response to this question many times. The truth is I would probably be miserable. I know there is demand for my products and services. I love to create beautiful tablescapes, decorating spaces and culinary art. I wanted to combine all those skills and creativity into my catering business to create a unique dining experience. A few months later I registered Myers Gourmet Kitchen. I thought about the possible long term benefits of entrepreneurship such as flexibility , building generational wealth and the financial rewards. It will not be easy but it will be worth it for sure.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. I was always a fanatic for a events decor and design. I worked in different departments in the industry including the food and beverage area. Of course getting to this point has it fair share of ups and downs. I take it one day at a time but the key is to never stop learning and adapting to changes. There always a solution to life’s challenges.

I’m most excited about what my growth will look like in the next 2 years.
Over the last 5 years I began focusing on crafting and now private catering.

I really just found myself cooking and before you know it, people began talking about the food and the next thing you know I registered a whole new business .

Enjoy your journey as much as possible. Don’t be in a hurry to get to the destination. Your story is in the journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would most certainly be going down town Atlanta to try out a few of those brunch spots I keep seeing on Instagram . We would visit The Skintimacy Bar to experience their body butter making class and a candle making class. Then we would hop on the party bus with Lit Tours ATL for one of their wine tours and a quick tour of Atlanta Botanical Garden.

You should definitely take a trip Jamaica . Experience the food , music and the culture for yourself. Don’t skip The Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience OR a day out trying Jamaican street food. Thank me later !

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom and grandmother , my lecturer Mrs. Alladeen Knight , my aunt Tawanda and Uncle Dave. Thank you will never be enough. I love and appreciate you guys a lot! Big Up !!
