We had the good fortune of connecting with Daveena Hipp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daveena, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
I think that the most difficult decision I’ve had to make thus far, is deciding to leave my old job to pursue Photography full-time. I’ve never not worked. I’ve always had a job, and to make the decision to leave the job I had was a difficult one. My circle of friends are entrepreneurs. Since I’ve lived in Macon, watching them do what they do and have business talks with me, was and always has been inspiring. Those friends, and my boyfriend inspired me to go for what I’ve wanted to do for so long, and now that I’m actually doing it for real, it feels amazing and my mental health has gotten so much better being focused on what I want to do to fulfill my spirit.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art can be described as Brightly Moody. Comparing my current work to my old work has shown me that I’ve definitely grown as a creative, and that there’s always going to be room for improvement. I’m definitely proud of myself for not allowing my mental health to get in the way of me pursuing my creative goals this year, since the past few years were not the right time to pursue Photography. By overcoming issues with not being able to pursue Photography, I ended up moving to a completely new environment, and that was a huge adjustment. Things were a bit unfamiliar when I moved, but eventually I took a leap of faith and have no regrets thus far.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A place I’d recommend to the readers would be Mukja if they want a nice, fulfilling lunch. It’s a Korean restaurant in Atlanta that has really, really great food. For dessert or just to have a little something sweet, I also recommend checking out Sweet Hut bakery and cafe. Everything there is made fresh, and the variety they have is crazy! For someone looking to hang out and chill as well, Piedmont Park and Centennial Olympic Park are some pretty nice places to hang out with friends, take pictures, see the sights, and even get a bite to eat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my number one supporter, my boyfriend Stephen. Since we’ve been together, he has always, always, always given me support and has consistently tried to get me to do what I want to do, that makes me happy. He has seen my bad side when things don’t go how I want them to, and he’s seen my good side when things go how I want them to. All of the feedback, suggestions, and honest talks have definitely pushed me in the right direction to pursue Photography. He even helped me impulse buy my first camera, haha. I had been wanting a camera for so long before we became a couple, and one day I was talking to him about Photography (in 2019) and the next thing I know, I picked a camera. A good one actually. All of those things aside, Stephen has always been a great support system when I thought I didn’t have a support system at all, and I will forever be grateful for everything he’s done and still does to push me into the right direction and to challenge myself daily.
