Meet Dave Jia | Film & TV Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Jia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dave, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It’s a historical novel written in the 14th century by Luo Guanzhong that’s based on the true events surrounding the fall of the Han dynasty in China. I absolutely love it. The story is full of complex characters, from heroic warriors to cunning strategists, who fight each other for power, oftentimes with military force and other times with political maneuvers. Not only is the story extremely captivating, but also it presents a lot of life lessons and philosophical questions. Plus, on a personal level, I really connect with this novel, partially because of my Chinese heritage, and partially because when I was growing up, my dad would read me stories from this novel. Some people have compared Romance of the Three Kingdoms to Game of Thrones, which has made me wonder… Why hasn’t anyone adapted this into an English-speaking television series yet? If that were to ever happen, my dream role would probably be to act as one of the characters from this story.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Acting is more than just my job; it’s my passion. My favorite types of projects are comedic TV series and feature films, although I do love working on dramas as well. I think what separates me from other actors is my absurd sense of humor, which is very dry and sarcastic. You’ll notice it in a lot of the comedic projects I’ve acted in, including my own goofy TikTok videos that I like to make in my free time. Recently, I worked on a comedy feature film for Netflix that I feel very proud of, but I can’t say much about it right now, as it’s not been released yet. Overall, the journey’s definitely had its ups and downs, and I couldn’t have overcome the challenges without the support of the many talented friends I’ve made while working in entertainment. The biggest lesson I’ve realized is probably learning to let go. I’ve always had a tendency to overthink and to attempt to be perfect, even though perfection doesn’t exist, especially in art. So when I started to just let go and trust my intuition, I began making more progress. Ultimately, if the films and shows that I act in can move people emotionally, or get people to think about big ideas, or inspire others to strive to become better people, I would feel accomplished with my art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Forget the touristy areas. Let’s just drive around trying different restaurants! I love all types of foods, but my favorite is probably either Korean barbeque or Chinese hot pot.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel extremely grateful to have collaborated with so many amazing people in my acting career that it’s challenging for me to name just one, and if I named everyone, this list would go on for pages. But, off the top of my mind, I’d love to give a shout out to some of my closest director/producer friends: Radomir Jordanovic, R.J. Maurer, Marissa Vonn, William Boodell, Tony Zequeira, Toran Farrow. Some of my favorite fellow actors to collaborate with include: Talita Maia, Kayla Eva, Victor Salvatore, Joshua Khalil Rahman. Meanwhile, my acting coaches have also been tremendous inspirations to me: Ivana Chubbuck and Frantz Turner.
