Meet Darryl Peoples: Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Peoples and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darryl, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
As a designer I thrive to make every client that I come in contact with feel important. An inspirational quote that I live by is from the great Maya Angelou which states: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” My legacy is being authentic. I believe in being transparent and not only celebrate the good,but also the bad. For years I’ve suffered from depression, social anxiety and I was considered to be “suicidal.” There were many days I felt as if my days were numbered in the matter of my on hands. I took it upon myself to seek professional help. I was able to get control of my mental health and also inspire others. I want to be remembered as someone who took the step in the right direction to break the stigma of mental health.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What makes me stand out from others with my designs is I embrace the history of our African ancestors. I’m most proud of believing in myself even when others didn’t see my vision. Receiving a proclamation from the state government was also motivation for me to keep going. I am where I am today because I didn’t give up. We all have obstacles in the roads ahead, but giving up isn’t an option. I’ve learned to remain authentic to myself. Never give up although times may get hard, you must keep going. I want be viewed as motivation to others. Don’t be afraid with being put in uncomfortable situations. That’s how you’ll noticed the growth. I am the owner and founder of Heru Ra Creations, LLC and was born in December of 1993 in Bessemer, AL. I was always creative and adventurous growing up from a child. I didn’t allow my mental illness to stop me. In July of 2018 I received professional help which also led me to being a mental health advocate. In October of 2018, I started my own company “©️2018 Heru Ra Creations, LLC.” The story behind my company is to inspire individuals to create their own opportunities, and to NEVER GIVE UP!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ms. Artica Jenkins. Because of her I wouldn’t be where I am today. I remember sitting on her couch in a counseling session trying to figure out why I felt the way I did. She helped me to believe in myself and take things for what they are and be okay with it.
I’d also like to recognize Mr. Dalvert Cassaelberry. Because of him I started sewing. He took me in and made sure I learn how to work my sewing machine and made sure I understood the basics of constructing a garment. With the knowledge that I learned from him I was able to form my own business as a fashion designer.
