We had the good fortune of connecting with Daralynn Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daralynn, how do you think about risk?
I think we are always told to “take the leap” when reaching toward our goals, but I believe that you have to continuously take that leap over and over and over again to reach some long-term goals. It’s the small decisions that get you to your goals and most of the time your taking a risk. Whether, its with taking time away from your family, quitting your full-time job, or investing a large amount into your business, it’s necessary. I have made and continue to take calculated risks. sometimes they work, but sometimes they don’t. The times they don’t work, you learn from. The times they do work, you learn from as well.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
BWP Literary Services is a full scale publishing company that offers assistance in publishing your diverse children’s books. I have been in this business for over ten years, and my own Children’s book series “Madison Miles and friends” has done well. I wanted to help new authors realize their dreams by walking them through the self-publishing process. It can be daunting and expensive.

I knew I always wanted to write, but I needed some guidance. I reached out to people who I knew had done it before and they answered all my questions, suggested books I should read, and introduced me to people who could assist me. After all this time, I knew I was ready to help others achieve their dreams.

It has not been easy at all, but so worth it! A lot of long nights, traveling from city to city, networking, and spending lots of money. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It has definitely paid off in more ways than one.

Madison Miles and Friends is an amazing children’s book series that focuses on amplifying children of color in books. My series focuses on four african-american girls of color who love Science Technology, Engineering and math.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Its so many places, I don’t know if I could choose! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to the Motown Writers Network in Detroit, MI. they were very instrumental in the publishing of my first book. They continue to do events and help up and coming authors publish and promote their work.
