We had the good fortune of connecting with Danyella Terrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danyella, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process for launching Beyond the Brokenness MWS was to offer support to children and families within my local community, especially to those who look like me. In 2021, there were fewer than 20 mental health providers in the Hattiesburg area who accepted Medicaid (excluding those in the community mental health sector) or were accepting new patients. I aimed to enhance the range of available providers and promote diversity in services.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey has been far from easy. Along the way, I’ve encountered numerous challenges and made my fair share of mistakes, each serving as valuable lessons. Embracing consistency, perseverance, purpose-driven actions, and authenticity as my guiding principles, I’ve navigated through the ups and downs. There’s only one Danyella Terrell. She is Kinda bad, Kinda Boujee but ALWAYS Cute and my distinct combination of these qualities truly sets me apart.
I want the world to understand that peace is attainable when you heal from your hurts, identify your triggers, and operate within your true passion. What makes my brand unique is our holistic approach, which not only focuses on shifting thought patterns but also on nurturing and enhancing confidence and self-esteem, laying the foundation for future success, provided the necessary effort is invested.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My practice is located in Hattiesburg, MS. If my bestie is visiting for a girls’ trip, we’d make sure to meet up with Danie Gray for Wing Thursday. We’d indulge in burgers, wings, and fries while enjoying each other’s company and catching up. The following day, we’d head downtown to SouthBound for breakfast and then explore the Boujee Boss Pop-Up Market at Turtle Creek Mall. Im sure we would have to take a nap and watch some hallmark station, followed by dinner at Half Shell Oyster House. On the last day, we’d take a stroll along the Longleaf Trace, enjoy brunch at Chesterfields, do more shopping at The Boujee Boss Pop-Up Market (as there are different vendors each day), and conclude our trip with a delightful evening downtown at Buschman Cafe!
Hattiesburg has some much life… from Downtown to uptown and in between. There is so much good food and fun. Depending on the visit we would chill at the new water park. located at the Hattiesburg Zoo!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a shoutout to my mother and father for my achievements. Drawing from both the positive and challenging experiences of my upbringing, I find myself in the position I am today. My determination to network, collaborate, and assist others stems from years of observing my father selflessly giving his all to assist those in need within our community. Likewise, my capacity to support others with humility reflects the example of humility my mother consistently displayed at home work and in the church. Both of my parents were diligent workers who ensured our needs were met and even indulged some of our wants. Wanda Thomas, LCSW, the Executive Director at Catholic Charities Jackson, generously dedicated two years of her time to supervise, train and mentor me as I pursued my clinical licensure. She went above and beyond, making herself readily available to answer questions, offer guidance, and ensure I stayed on track with my plans. Even now, she remains just a text or phone call away, and I am immensely grateful for the ongoing connection and support. There are many more, but I will leave it at these three for now.
