We had the good fortune of connecting with Dante Williamson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dante, how do you think about risk?
Take risks, but smart, calculated risks. Whether you succeed or fail, you’re either rewarded or become wiser as a result of it. So I look at it as a win-win! I’m not afraid if I do something unsuccessful because if I don’t take chances, my music will sound and feel isolated. I’ll let myself down if I don’t take risks and my potential will be undeveloped. I don’t want to lose a golden opportunity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My uniqueness is what sets me apart from other rappers. People recognize my sound is unfamiliar and want to understand every piece of my puzzle.

What I’m most excited about is my long awaited EP I’m currently working on titled, SADHAPPY. In the past year, I, like all of you have battled on both ends of the human experience, defended my peace, fought for my happiness, and battled my demons. Allowing my emotions to coexist is important because you can’t have transparency without both. SADHAPPY will have many layers and I’m excited to give it to the world.

I got to where I am today by being true to who I am. I’m not afraid to walk a path alone. I strive to be an abundant source of inspiration to others just by being myself. It hasn’t been easy at all. Some people in my circle have recently shown their true colors when I began setting boundaries that protect my creative process, and that was foreign at first. I overcame those challenges with positive thinking and reframing. I’m learning to not let negative memories consume me and to rewrite the narratives of my difficulties as growth opportunities.

I want the world to know I am just like them– I am not perfect and I am still learning this thing called life. To someone you may be one person, but to them you’re the world. It’s all how you look at it. Don’t let others’ opinions hold you back!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take my homies to three of my favorite food joints in Nashville– Pancake Pantry for breakfast, Slim N’ Huskies for lunch, and Hattie B’s for dinner. Afterwards we’d go to the Gulch, which is a fun, touristy place that attracts thousands of people. It’s known for high-rise condos, cool shops, tasty breweries, and exclusive hotels. For the evening/night life we’d go to 5th and Broadway which is a newer attraction. It has 2 delicious food courts, outdoor attractions, and live music venues all throughout Music Row. For a backup plan, East Nashville is a dope place people visit as well. It’s culturally diverse with a trendy, hipster vibe, showcasing some of the best mom and pop’s restaurants in the South.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My good friend who goes by the moniker “jordan” is also a young creative and independent artist. He’s a producer, rapper, and multi-instrumentalist who’s contributed to my journey. He deserves recognition because his music is honest and a reflection of his thoughts, which I believe is rare in the industry right now. He is a free flowing innovator that lets his work speak for himself– his gifting allows him to move in and out of rooms like a musical chameleon. He is mad dope.
