Meet Danisha Rolle | Producer & Publisher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danisha Rolle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Sports & Entertainment Today because I did not see sports presented in a way that I was interested in consuming it. I love sports but wanted to learn more about the athletes and their lifestyles. I felt that fans did too, particularly female fans. There was ESPN and Sports Illustrated but nothing that spoke to the female fan base. Since women made up over 40% of the viewers of the Super Bowl and every professional sporting event I attended I would see women. Why not create something that spoke to women that didn’t only feature female athletes? That was the thought process behind starting Sports & Entertainment Today – SET.
What should our readers know about your business?
Sports & Entertainment Today – SET – is a sports lifestyle brand. We started as just a magazine but grew into events and a digital presence. We created Women of the NFL on instagram and now have the annual SET An Example Conference that is going on its 7th year. I am most proud of the resilience and faith that it has taken to produce a magazine, build a community and be consistent with an annual event. Each inspiring, encouraging and uniting sports fans. Was it easy? Absolutely not. This has taken decades. Any entrepreneur that is a wife, mother and friend will attest to the balancing act that entrepreneurship is. The prioritizing, self-talk and level of optimism that it takes to juggle is not for the unsure. I had to get real clear and decide that this is what I wanted. SET is what I want to build and what I’m willing to go thru the trenches to make happen.
Along the way I have learned that giving myself and those around me grace is necessary. I’ve learned that there are far more good people that do good business than not and when we come across those people that over promise and underdeliver to keep going instead of being discouraged.
I want the world to know that Sports & Entertainment Today is the premier platform for fans that don’t just want stats or scores but sports lifestyle. For fans that love to see where their favorite athletes or peers are traveling, what they are doing during the off season, what motivates them and how they turn trials into triumphs.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta for a week we would do the following things ~ Brunch at Toast on Lenox because not only is the food and service everything but it is a vibe. You cannot come to Atlanta – The Black Mecca – and not do a Black History and Civil Rights Tour.
Atlanta has so much culture, history and tradition that my friend would have to experience it.
Breakfast at Barney’s to experience black art, black music and black service.
A Wine Country Tour, sampling Georgia wines from local vineyards. We would have a spa day at The Four Seasons Atlanta, dinner at Yebo Beach Haus and go for drinks one night at The James Room. Now with all of that we would absolutely have to catch an Atlanta Hawks game courtside and a Falcons game from a suite. We would have a fabulous time in Atlanta!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this! I stand on the back of so many that deserve a Shoutout and then some. I dedicate this Shoutout to Pamela Walker, Prinses Hemphill, Amakeda Ponds, Tenise Love, Elicia Bennett, Masika Mughelli, Ashley Mitchell, Darryl Brown, Phillip Stung, Mitzi Miller, Joan Morgan and Samari Rolle. These are the people that have been enthusiastic about my goals and dreams even when I wasn’t. These are the people that have been sounding boards and helped pushed thoughts into existence. Going thru the valleys and the peaks with these people have made my entrepreneurial journey so much more lively and fulfilling. I do not take them for granted and will give them a Shoutout from now until.
