We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I myself don’t believe that you can achieve work life balance. I do believe that an approach of finding harmony could bring more simplicity than trying to create a balance. It just isn’t possible to devote equal amounts of time and effort into each category of what our lives require simultaneously.
Harmony however functions differently. There’s no excess in one life area and a deficit in another but all are attended to simultaneously within an order of importance.
The best example of this is an orchestra.
There are many instruments that comprise an orchestra. These instruments are further divided into families. Woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, and keyboards. These groups of instruments present different sounds individually but by harmonious effort the beauty of music is introduced. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
No instrument is more vital than the next so when there’s a solo of one group the others only lower their volume. They don’t cease, they only fade into the background temporarily. So the collaboration continues but with the one group in the forefront for that moment. Then when that solo closes there is a return to a volume of unison with their peers to continue the harmony.
Attempting to weigh one area of life against another area keeps a person going back and forth and not flowing. Harmony is about flowing while balancing is about shifting from one side to the other to bring a measure of equal.
I believe when we seek harmony of all the areas of our life over attempting to balance we’ll then find more joy within our lives.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There has been for too long no space in culture for men to feel safe in being emotionally vulnerable without being judged or ridiculed.

What continually excites me is men realizing that it’s okay to admitt that they no longer want to appear to have it all together or have all the answers. I’m excited when a man says I’m like this because I’m choosing it and I’m no longer choosing this version of me but the greatest most excellent version. When a man makes that declaration,  marriages change, families change, and he changes those within the sphere of his influence.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t want to be cliche but I absolutely thank my Lord Jesus The Christ for bringing me to this point of my life. Once I accepted Christ as my Savior (everything) that once trapped me in destructive cycles I now use as fuel (of encouragement and passion.)It is with intentionality that I highlight where we as men have been falling so that we can correct ourselves and prevent a continuation of miseducation and improper examples for the boys, youth, and other men watching.
