We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Powell II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always enjoyed cooking for others. But after working at top-rated fast-paced restaurants in Atlanta, I realized my love for being able to provide a delicious creation to a customer. In 2015, I began whipping up a secret sauce I named after my daughter called “Marley sauce”. I shared it with friends and coworkers, and they loved it! Then a year later, I was laid-off from my job of 4 years, and that’s when I started getting serious about opening up my own food service business. And then it happened, the vision for Powell’s Fine Dining was birthed.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Powell’s Fine Dining apart from the rest is the way that we cook/ create our dishes & drinks. We make sure that we take our time and carefully prepare our dishes with love and cook them in fruits. So that every encounter that our customers have with each bite feels like heaven on earth. We are a mobile service that specializes in private dinners and exquisite dishes with a fine dining experience.

We got to where we are today by keeping God first and front center in our business. We’ve also kept pushing through no matter how slow seasons may get or challenging life may get. Also by building authentic relationships with our clients and customers.

We overcome challenges by standing strong, staying positive and seeing which areas we can improve.

The lessons we’ve learned along the way are: You have to put yourself out there, even when it feels funny. Just because it may seem like no one is watching, there is always someone out there looking for what you have to offer! Nothing is too impossible for God, if you believe it!

We want the world to know that this was only possible and done by the grace of God! Powell’s Fine Dining was given to me during a very low time in my life back in 2016. When we started, we didn’t have much but we sold plates, and we catered our first huge holiday event. After 3 years of preparation and the pandemic, Powell’s Fine Dining reopened with a Soft Opening in Fall 2021.

We are a private food & beverage service specializing in private dinners, catering events, business luncheons, meal-preps and more. With your choice of exquisite meats: lamb, lobster, duck, salmon steaks, and snapper with a fine dining experience. We will be rolling out with our Formal Dinner Events starting March 2022. We are known for our special dry rub smoked ribs that we only serve at small business pop-ups and venues. We are also known for our gourmet side dishes and our fresh fruit-infused lemonades and ice-teas.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a best friend were coming into Atlanta, I would take them to some of the best restaurants in the heart of Atlanta. For instance, we would go down to Lil Five points to grab a bite of texas-style barbecue. Or to the Ponce de leon market. We would go to a Hawks game or a Braves game at the new Mercedes Benz stadium. There’s so much to do in the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, first and foremost… the big credit goes to my Heavenly Father. and my Lord & Savior None of this would be possible without them. Secondly, I would like to shoutout my beautiful amazing wife, Nakiara Powell. She keeps me on top of things, and she plays a very important role on the front and back-end of business. She’s in charge of the business marketing, administration and customer service. I don’t know what I would do without her. And last but certainly not least, I would like to shoutout my amazing parents who are also my leaders in ministry, Prophet Daniel Powell Sr. and Prophetess Esther Powell. They have been so supportive and encouraging throughout my entire entrepreneurial journey!
