We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani Guevarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dani, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” I may not follow 100% of the time because a go getter needs rest, but his quote has minimized my procrastination. It has lit a fire under me when I need to get a task done, and because of this quote I am farther long than I was yesterday.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Acting For Beginners LLC. I am an acting coach for those looking to break into the acting industry and have no clue on how to get started. About 70% of my students are International. What sets my business apart is that I teach students that are not in the United States. These students are unable to come to the States and study acting, so I extend my knowledge, expertise, and experience to them digitally using my Masters in Digital Entrepreneurship. I train those that have no idea on how to get started. I guess it’s safe to say I coach the babies of acting. My goal is to give them a realistic perspective on getting started in this industry with the proper training.
I honestly got to where I am today by creating a Facebook group. Of course me studying the craft and being a working actress myself helps. The group grew to over 20,000 members in the span of 2 years. I knew that if I had that many eyes on this group it had to become a business. I knew there was a reason for it. I began doing informative videos and free group acting classes via zoom. Some of the classes have been taught on whatsapp for those who were unable to zoom due to data issues. I bring in other acting coaches to teach the students as well. This allows those coaches to build a following and gain students from the platform. I like to consider myself the middle man for the students. Sometimes they just need someone to point them in the right direction. I lead them to the coach that better fits their needs. Every actor is different.
There were a lot of lessons that I learned along the way. One is understanding the culture differences and how to teach different cultures. I teach the students about the United States’ industry culture, and how to bridge theirs with ours. It gets difficult at times due to the different cultures and different languages but I’m learning how to communicate acting to everyone which is great. They are also teaching me about acting where they are.
I want the world to know me as a teacher. I find myself teaching when I shouldn’t. If I have the knowledge on a subject I just talk about it and I make sure that you understand it. As far as my story, I just want everyone to know that it’s not an overnight success. I’ve been in this industry for over 10 years. It’s a blessing my Facebook page grew to 20,000 members, but I also have to maintain the numbers and keep members interested and stay active on the page as well as continue to increase the business growth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a hard question because I’m really a homebody, we would probably grill at the house. I like to eat all types of food so we would hit up some new restaurants. I’m very adventurous, we would get a workout in and climb some mountains like Stone Mountain or Kennesaw mountain. We may even go tubing in Helen GA. I was introduced to tubing about 3 years ago and would definitely introduce it to some friends who aren’t afraid of getting their hair wet. I would also drive them around to the different areas of Atlanta that really aren’t Atlanta, but of course every claims Atlanta.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the members/students of Acting for Beginners and the coaches who have come through to help teach. I’m currently Co-host and Executive Producer of a talk show called Us Talk. So it’s only right that I shout out my girls Deborah and Angel and the entire team. Guess I have to do another interview to talk about that business UsTalk!
