We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Dawkins of Dana Simone Photography and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dana, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I consider myself to be a free spirit and pursuing a creative career allows me to be open minded and express different versions of me through art. As a creative, I can be as innovative, raw or expressive as I want to be and use my imagination to generate new ideas.

Growing up, I was always creative & artistic and definitely always in someone’s face with a camera or camcorder. Lol
It was only right I be a photographer.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, I am constantly considering new way to create ideas as well as try new things I was inspired to try by other artist. Being a creative is not easy. Sometimes we draw blanks and don’t know which way to go.

As long as we keep going we’ll most likely figure it out. That’s what I’m most proud of. How far I’ve come as a photographer and super excited about where it will take me. The journey is beautiful; learning new thing and applying it. Even just trying some things on a whim is what being a creative is about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Unfortunately, giving out the best places to visit is not my thing. I always throw that question over to my husband. Lol I’m down to go pretty much wherever, especially if its fun, spontaneous, and a good vibe. Just don’t ask me to lead the way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thanks to fellow photographers and groups I am apart of who selflessly give knowledgeable information and constructive criticism so that I am able to advance my skills as an artist.

Although I am self taught, thank you to those who helped me further my knowledge in areas I needed to grow.
Also, thank you to my husband for being a listening ear to my ideas and giving me advice when needed.
