We had the good fortune of connecting with Damoin “Stick” Harrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Damoin “Stick”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind the success of my brand are being good to people, giving people a space to be themselves in a judgement free zone, being honest and real with people, and being willing to help people when needed.

Of all of these, a very critical factor is being a real person. It’s important to meet people where they are. I’ve had people who trained with me and may have lost their jobs due to COVID or other reasons and/or their financial situation changed… I allowed them to continue to workout with me and then start back paying me when they were able to do so.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most proud of the level of consistency and continued growth that we have been able to achieve regardless of any obstacle. We do this by using everyday as a day of practice to continue to get better and better. It definitely wasn’t easy and I wouldn’t be here without my team.

I overcame many challenges by being exactly who I say I am..no matter what you do, make a decision and stand on it.

I’ve learned many lessons during this process-Drink water and mind my business; No matter what profession you’re in, the people that are for you are for you and those that aren’t are not… “Choose who choose you”; Lastly, people wont start supporting you until they see it’s cool to do so.

I want the world to know that no matter what I go through in life or what challenges I might face, I’ll be a fighter for the rest of my life. You’ll lose friends, money, etc; but no matter what challenges come against me, I’m always up for it. Just know you’ll have one hell of a fight on your hands if you’re against me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If y’all know me I like to compete… I’ve been going to Midtown Bowl since I got to Atlanta. When you go, ask for Mike. I admire them and I love going there because they are all a family and you feel it as soon as you walk in. A few of my other favorite spots/things to do:

Visit the Village Market and holla at Dr. Key, then take a walk down the beltline

Stop by Happy Clouds in East Ponce holla at Taz

Have all the ladies pull up to SexyWerk Fitness every Friday at Stick Shift Fitness with Coach Star

A House Called Hue holla at Destiny

Of course, Friday Night Lights and Mafia Saturdays at Stick Shift Fitness!

World Changers on Sundays, ask for Sister Johnson

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to Meia (best friend/manager) for joining me on this crazy journey, Destanni for giving me the great customer service that I needed and helping to make Stick Shift Fitness a welcoming place, and Kaalyah “RiRi” for being my partner in crime and the best assistant and being there every time I needed.

A special shoutout to the whole Stick Shift mafia and everyone who has supported us. Even if you only came one time (little gym or big gym) I appreciate you all. Last but definitely not least, Mary Harrell (my grandmother) and Winona Harrell (my mom) for the prayers that have covered me through it all and keep me going.
