We had the good fortune of connecting with Damarcus Richards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damarcus, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks has allowed me to believe in myself. You have to take chances in life. If you fail, you have to be willing to try again and again. In life, if you can’t get behind the passion that drives you every day to get out of bed, then why are you here. I am a Network Engineer by trade. Growing up in Columbus, GA, I always wanted to be an engineer, architect, but I worked in my dad’s business up until I was 23. As I was going to college, I worked two jobs & went to school. Once I graduated, we moved to Virginia. As we were driving to Columbus, GA to Virginia, my car broke down in Newnan, GA. I had a choice to go back to Columbus, or figure something out. We found a U-Haul store opened on Sunday and she kindly helped us on our way. I put my car on the tow-dolly and we kept moving forward to Virginia. We continued on to Virginia. There is where I found my passion and love for networking. You have to take risk, try it once within reason.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called DFT INVESTMENTS LLC. I am most proud because my business evolved over the years. It was definitely not easy. Not having the right people to mentor you in business and life gets tough. I started my business in Virginia. The goal was to buy homes and invest in real estate initially. Through the years of mistakes and transgressions, the business evolved into Investing in yourself. Helping people to find their passion and go for it! Patience & resiliency is the key. The lessons I have learned is people are people, they classify themselves. Serving people is a people business and continue to share your gift with others. No one can take the knowledge & experience you have read or learned on your own.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Once they get settled in the hotel, for breakfast, we going to Thumbs Up Diner or Atlanta Breakfast Club. I would take them to Ponce City Market to hang out and eat a nice lunch and shop if they want. That evening for dinner and night life, going out to Truist Bank Park where the Braves stadium is located. It is great for everyone to walk around and enjoy a variety of food & great atmosphere!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s so many people that have played a part in my growth through life. I want to thank the Creator, my family, friends & my kids. The Creator for giving me another day to be grateful. My family for standing by me in my time of need. The friends that tell me that I am wrong and help me to grow is so important. My kids is my WHY!!!
