We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Bolger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daisy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Iv’e always wanted to invent. I would dream up the craziest things that I wanted to bring to life. One time when I was about 5 years old I wanted to invent a way to walk up walls and spent way too much time testing out methods by making my hands sticky and actually trying to climb up a flat wall. It didn’t work but I kept trying. As I got older that drive ti create translated more into art and design. I wanted to translate the images and feelings in my head into a physical representation. I dabbled in painting and drawing, trying to figure out the best way to invent my artistic vision. Finally, I discovered digital art, namely photography and graphic design. I was able to be as creative and wild with my designs as I wanted to and it was easy to edit them.
I knew then that I wanted this to be my career and one day my goal is to own my own art studio. I kept on producing art and finding my specific style. I found that combing black and white digital photography of snap shots of everyday life with colorful and explosive graphic design gave the look and feel I was after. From that moment on I began planning how to make my dream come true and made an Instagram account, website, and online store where I began to sell my art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art represents the feelings and thought that run through my head when I look at a scene. I photograph scenes if they make me feel something, which could be any emotion, good or bad. Then I edit that digital image and turn it into a black and white one. Once that’s done I draw on top of the image using digital art tools in Procreate, an illustration platform. I use many different colors, sketches, and types of marks to create a very bold and often times vibrant scene. My hope is that others will able able to feel the emotion through the piece.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them downtown to where all the good restaurants and entertainment is. I am a huge fan of chicken sandwiches, especially spicy chicken sandwiches, so I would be sure to stop by South City Kitchen Buckhead.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my advisor and art professor I had at Santa Clara University, Ryan Carrington. He is an artist himself with a successful art practice and he was the most influential and inspiring teacher I have ever had.
