We had the good fortune of connecting with Da Black Mav and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Da Black Mav, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It felt natural to me. We all want to be seen, heard, & or felt in some form or fashion. I actually feel we’re obligated to share our gifts to the world to show gratitude for possessing them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The origins of my name “Da Black Maverick” comes from not being afraid to address certain things or go against the norm. The “Da” part is not hip-hop or “purposeful misspelling” to look cool… It’s my daughter’s first word & what she still refers to me as till this day! So it’s a salute to her. I’ve always had an affinity for writing & finding alternative ways to say things. As a child, the thesaurus was my favorite book. Combined with a passion for music, I was presented with an outlet to express, entertain, & most importantly enlighten. My sheer existence sets me apart as I am given messages only I can convey through my Creator. I embrace being a vessel & I’m learning how to embody that more in my life & music each day. I’ve gotten where I am today from the guidance of my Father & the people I’ve been fortunate enough to be placed around. I’ve learned that utilization is key & that usury is only bad with ill intent. We can’t do this alone. I believe that true mastery cannot be achieved without Brotherhood. I understand why “Love thy Neighbor as thyself” is the second most important commandment because if you love someone, you wouldn’t want to afflict them. Changing to a plant-based “live it”(not diet) has changed my appetite across the board including people. I’ve also recently changed my perspective on the term easy. I feel like anything that hasn’t caused death should be considered easy because something was gained from it weather we’re aware of it or not. That’s why I say “GODSPEED” indicating that “It’s gone to be what it’s supposed to be, when it’s supposed to be it”. A “self-slogan” if you will that reminds me of my mission when I falter. It’s also the title of my latest album in which you can hear all of these things being discussed & expressed on wax. Speaking of living my music, I released a song titled “Miesha House” a few years ago highlighting the love & appreciation I have for my family & friends. The vibrant cover art became a clothing line & “Miesha House” turned into a brand. Miesha is my Sister from another mister & her spot serves as our headquarters where we enjoy each other’s presence and build! “Miesha House” is also wherever we are conjoined making it an entire movement! There’s an abundance of us in different parts of the continent lol. I’m extremely grateful for all of them & anyone who has taken interest in anything I’ve created. I just want to continue being proof of GOD’S Existence…

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would do all things stated above at….(Sidenote: Can we add drumrolls in online articles yet?)……”MIESHA HOUSE”! The only other thing I can see worth coming out of the house for is for one of my good Brother Artormiss Prime events. He throws the dopest situations in the city that everyone should be privy to by now.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You may have to start playing music at some point in time thoughout this but as an ambitious plumber once stated..”Let’s-a-Go”!… I’d like to distribute the greatest shoutout to my CREATOR! I’d also like to acknowledge the greatest gift I’ve ever received in my Daughter KZY! I thank Yah for assigning you to me. Salute to her Mother as well…One time for my Mama & Fahja.
