We had the good fortune of connecting with D. Norris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D., what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Goals need a degree of urgency. It’s easy to procrastinate or hope someone else takes up the reigns. But if you want something (anything) done, get up and do it yourself and do as soon as realistically possible.

Please tell us more about your work. How did you get to where you are today professionally. 
In short, I’m an actor and choreographer. I’ve been dancing and creating dances since high school. After college, I started seriously training in hip hop, jazz, modern, contemporary, salsa and bachata. Dancing lead me to appear in my first stage play as a dancer. During which, the director offered me a speaking role. Since then, I’ve acting in numerous productions, written scripts, directed, choreographed musicals, stage managed, and ran tech (sound and lights).

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1, we’d hit either Stone Mountain Park or Roswell Mill. Day 2, Lil’ Five Points to hang out with funky, eccentric people
Day 3, Atlantic Station
Day 4, a local theatrical production, maybe a concert

We’d spend at least one night at a Latin dance social. There’s one on almost every night of the week. Some of my favorite restaurants are The Flying Biscuit, Nori Nori and Kura for sushi, Yo Chef, What’s Cooking, and JJ’s Fish and Chicken, Uncle Maddio’s Pizza before they closed.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Live Arts Theatre has supported my and other businesses with reckless abandonment. They support just about any business that has excellent quality and encourage diversity.
