We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyprina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cyprina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. I was a young girl, that grew up with no parents. My father passed when I was just four years old and my mother was absent. My paternal grandmother raised me by herself as a single parent. With that, I learned how to take care of myself at an early age. I was what you call a loner and still am to this day. The only thing that made me feel full and happy was art. Being an artist and performing on school stages and auditoriums. I did some singing, playing the violin, stepping and stage plays. I also spent most of my days in my room listening to music and reading books. I developed a form of independence at an early age and have been ever since. I always make a way for myself, even during the hardest, darkest times. At the age of seventeen, I had my first child. When I was twenty-two, I had my second. So, everything I do today, isn’t just for myself, it’s for them as well. With that, I work extremely hard at accomplishing all of my goals so I can give my daughters everything I never had.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I love most about being an actress is learning myself. It forces me to dig deep within myself and figure out why it’s easier to tap into certain emotions, and harder to tap into others. My overall strengths and weaknesses. For me, being an actress isn’t just about being seen or famous, it’s therapy for me and keeps me going. Nothing in life is as hard because I made my passion my mission and priority. I love it when I can bring my darkness to light and turn it into art in front of the camera. To be able to be imperfect and flawed and rewarded and appreciated for it.

Getting here wasn’t easy. I served six years in the United States Army. During my last year in the service, I learned about my mental condition. Learning about my illness changed my life. Once I separated from the Military, I told myself it was time to revolve my life around doing what I love, what makes me happy and brings me peace. Become that woman that I always dreamed of being since I was a child. A woman who breaks barriers and influences the people around her just by walking in her purpose. I had to reach rock bottom to get to this point. But I learned that giving up on myself isn’t the answer and to keep pushing through adversity. I also know that I wouldn’t be able to get this far professionally if it wasn’t for my grandmother supporting me and my decisions and helping me to raise my daughters.

I want the world to know that I am a woman with a past and a bright future. That there is beauty in my darkness and not just my light and that if I can do it, they can do it too. Mental health matters and living a life doing what you love is true power and success. I don’t look like all I’ve been through, but I know where I’ve been, how far I’ve come, and where I’m going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I would have a great time if she came to visit. I do love planning fun things to do as well. One thing I’ve learned about Atlanta is that it is always something to do!
Friday: Would consist of a night at Café Circa to dance a little. Their DJ is pretty nice with the music.

Saturday: A girl’s picnic at Piedmont Park. Which is my favorite park! Sip on some wine, eat some plant-based subs, and vegan dessert. Top it all off with some music.

Sunday: A morning hike at Roswell Mill/Vickery Creek to get great exercise and nature therapy.

Monday: A nice brunch and after create some content for social media.

Tuesday: A chill day at the house. Watching movies, cooking, and an in-home spa day.

Wednesday: A day out the Vegan Social ATL that happens every Wednesday at the Westside Motor Lounge.

A very productive and stress-free week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my grandmother. She’s the real MVP. Not only did she raise me by herself, but she’s supporting me, my life and career by helping me raise my two daughters. She raised my daughters while I served active duty in the United States Army and she’s raising them now, while I’m in Atlanta working to make my dreams my reality. She has always been my number-one supporter. Because of her I am able to do what I love full force. I’m truly blessed, because not everyone in this industry, or who wants to be, has this type of support system. Shoutout to God as well! All I will say is “Only God Knows”.
