We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Lo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Thank you so much for including me on your roster of Atlanta’s inspiring creatives! Since I was a kid, I often daydreamed about being in the entertainment industry – whether it was being a cartoonist for Cartoon Network, backup singer for Bette Midler, or kick butt like Michelle Yeoh. It took me a long time to grow some balls and just go for it. I saw a live sketch show in Atlanta (Sketchworks Comedy) and I immediately knew this was something I had to be a part of.

I performed as much as I could around town which led to film/tv roles and plays. Along the way, I met so many kind artists who challenged me to be my best. Now, I have content creation group (Feminine Odor) with two kindred souls, Kirsten Krehbiel and Sanna Erica. We produce silly videos, a podcast, and other excuses to hang out. Pursuing a career in acting not only added color to my life, but it also helped me understand the world better.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My content creation group, Feminine Oder, have produced comedies about pop culture and topics related to women. Because we’re small, we can experiment with different content mediums and take more risks with our writing. I’m so grateful to work with such thoughtful and talented women. My favorite part of Feminine Odor is dragging our friends to be in our projects.

Early in my acting career, it was tough dealing with constant rejection. Overtime, you just have to accept that life is unfair so you can divert your energy into something positive – whatever that means for you. For me that meant trying new things and building memories with loved ones. If you missed out on an opportunity, don’t beat yourself up. You’ll get another chance because everything comes in cycles.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would refer them to a Atlantan who is more cultured than I am LOL. I know Atlanta has something to offer for everyone! Currently, my go to places in Atlanta are Golda Kombucha, Waffle House, Plaza Theater, Aurora Cineplex, and Limelight Theater.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe everything to my mother. She is beautiful, smart, hardworking, and one of the best insult comics you’ll ever meet. I’m grateful to have a mom who loved her three children unconditionally. By watching her overcome obstacles in her life, it helped me recognize them so I can get back up quicker.
