We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Josey Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Eric Thomas says, “Be phenomenal or be forgotten.” This is a quote I live by in all aspects of my life. My goal is to operate in excellence in all that I do both personal and professionally so that I leave a lasting, positive impact with everyone I encounter, even if it’s only once.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Before I got into the trucking industry, I started my consulting business, Powerhouse Solutions Consulting. It was my first taste of entrepreneurialism. It helped to set the foundation for me as a business woman and ultimately an extension of my expertise in the trucking world. After slow and steady success with Josey Freight Co. as a carrier and then dispatcher, I noticed people started inquiring here and there about the industry. I decided to add business coaching for the industry into my service sets and its made my consulting business grow exponentially.

The road to success hasn’t been easy. Even with the amount of research I did prior to purchasing my first truck, I still managed to get burned on the second one. It wasn’t detrimental, but I learned from it and kept moving. We are very much in an era where social media makes everyone and everything look easy and that you can become an overnight success. While that may be true for a hand full of folks, the real truth is that being an entrepreneur takes grit, resilience, creativity, and focus. You have to understand that it won’t come easy and for every new level, it requires a you to go harder but to do it in smarter ways.

In this industry, you’ve absolutely got to be resilient and have thick skin. Sometime I find myself fighting a little harder to be taken serious because I’m a Black woman in an industry driven at the ownership level by white men. I tell people all the time, what sets me apart from the rest, I’m not just a trucking carrier, I am a triple threat; Carrier. Dispatcher, and Broker.

Slowly but surely those around my saw my passion growing for trucking and my best friend and her husband started calling me “Trucker Bae.” It was a cute inside thing but slowly grew into my brand. Now, it’s really caught on and people around town and others actually call me “Trucker Bae.” It’s kind of cool to see the evolution of something I organically became passionate for become bigger that I ever imagined. It is so fulfilling to be in a position to provide jobs in my community, mentorship to others, and to contribute in a philanthropic way to groups and causes near and dear to my heart. I’m the kid a lot of people counted out, but I’ve defied every single odd that was stacked against me and I look forward to sharing my story as it continues to be written.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my besties comes to town, eating good, tasty libations, relaxation with a side of turn up is always the move. We would kick things off with drinks at Gia, then dinner at 1618 Seafood Grille West followed by fun at the Bourbon Bowl which is an upscale bowling alley with a bar and nice vibes. The next day, we would do brunch at Luxe Soulfood & Cocktails then hit up the Rich Girls Selfie Museum and end the day at dinner at the Grandover Resort & Spa. The next day we would spend the entire day doing all the things women love to do to pamper themselves and relax…facials, massages, unlimited Rose’.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my amazingly supportive husband and my incredibly understanding children. Together, my husband and I are building an empire and my children get to see it first hand. My life and legacy means so much more because of them.
