We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Holguin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I believe everyone deserves a chance at starting a business. It can be so difficult, and it can be rewarding all at the same time. Being your own boss is rewarding as well, you can achieve your own vision and outlooks. Most importantly, you can set your own goals.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my photography business after I left Mom365 taking newborn photos at Northside Atlanta, Cherokee and Forsyth. I didn’t have it in me to charge new parents $400+, obviously I made sales but it broke my heart watching these parents struggle to make the payments just to have only 8 photos. I stayed awhile then I decided I had enough and I branched out on my own. I have been doing this for 7 years now and I’m thriving. I don’t believe in over pricing for precious memories, everyone deserves photos, because you never know when it’s your last day, or as you get older those memories can help bring back the journey. I believe that when a person gets dementia, photos can help bring them back to reality even if it’s for a moment. The journey wasn’t easy, but I kept smiling the entire time during ups and downs. If you have a goal, set it and don’t give up even when the road looks hard, achieve your goals and your dreams and soon you’ll find peace in it.
I’m also a sports photographer for my local rec department, I take all those photos free of charge for my community.
I also drive a school bus for Cherokee County, I’m a sub teacher and paraprofessional. I also work from home on the computer as well. I have published a Children’s book, I write poems and songs as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Atlanta, it can be busy but it’s beautiful. I also have love for Marietta and the Battery; PBR to be exact. Drinks are amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful. I also live for thrill, so Atlanta Motorsports in Dawsonville is amazing if you want to go fast like me, AMP has impressive speeds for go-karts.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my friends are an inspiration to me, without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. My mom Kimberly Holguin- Kitchens of course, she has helped me along the way, my biggest fan. My children are my heroes everyday. My Faith and always remembering to do everything with Grace. In 6th grade I met a very humbled lady whom has always been here for me, even during what I thought was Dark times. Adria Smith, is such a lovely human, she has always been there for me, she has never given up on me, I owe her everything. Adria has guided me, has always been in my corner and within arms reach. She owns a beautiful and remarkable art studio in Woodstock, GA Paper. Scissors. Cake is the name. If I learned anything it’s from her, she deserves so much good.
Children’s Health Care of Atlanta is also another one with Linda Cole, she is such a wonderful person as well, always helping others in need. CHOA is amazing organization as well, thankful Atlanta has the best.
