We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process wasn’t mine to begin with. I love throwing parties and just having gatherings. It’s always been a thing I liked to do. However, when I got married, we decided to do a destination wedding while cruising. Well, a good amount of my family and friends attended. I didn’t know that it was their first experience cruising. Fast forward, I threw a paint and sip at my home, many family and friends attended. They stated that it was their first experience attending a paint and sip. A friend stated to me, The Harvey Experience is always a first experience for so many people. It kinda stuck with me and I decided to start the business to create experiences as I always do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets The Harvey Experience apart from others is that we do and have created first experiences for many. My journey has not been easy as I have always tried to find my niche, not knowing or recognizing that it has always been right under my nose, creatively thinking outside the box for companies and not getting the recognition. I overcome challenges by dusting myself off and keep on pushing. Finding different avenues of making things happen for myself. You have to work with what you got to get where and what you want. I would like the world to know that many may have the same ideas, but creating first experiences with The Harvey Experience can never be duplicated.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a foodie and I love a nice cocktail. I would definitely take my best friend to Negril or Rock Steady for brunch. We would have to go to La Parilla on Howell Mill for drinks, they are the best, the bartenders will definitely keep you right. We would have to visit the infamous beltline while bicycling, I think that would be interesting to do. We would also check out Two Urban Licks restaurant while cycling the beltline. Oh! and let me not forget my favorite ice cream spot, Jeni’s on Krog Street. I would definitely have to take my friend to hear the hottest band in the ATL, We The Party Band, on Thursday nights at the Empire Lounge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out my husband. He is my biggest motivator. When I don’t feel like it, he definitely puts the fire behind me to get me started. I run ideas by him and we bounce off each other. He tells me all the time, we are not 9 to 5 workers, we are entrepreneur’s and we are going to make this happen. I love the encouragement, it makes me love him even more. Besides, The Harvey Experience wouldn’t be without him.
