We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Goode and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Orange County, California. My bonus dad, who was in the Marines, raised my sisters and I. He instilled being disciplined and being productive to us. I didn’t understand what he was trying to teach us at the time. Moving from California to Atlanta straight out of high school, I had to make sure I wasn’t messing around. Everything that I may have forgotten about growing up, came back to me once I left the nest.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I quit my managing job back in June 2020 – had been there 4 years. Couldn’t mentally be there anymore, lost myself. I’m most proud that I started back training again. It’s all I think about. I originally got certified in 2014; I did it for 2 and a half years. After my trainer died, I wasn’t really applying myself to get more clients, I felt like a fraud; telling my clients how they should workout & suggesting how to eat when I wasn’t following my own advice. This time around, I’m not giving up. I’m not getting off course & I stick to what I say I’m going to do. Especially if I wrote it down in my journal. I’ve learned that if I want more for myself, I need to be consistent. I wasn’t consistent then. Now, things aren’t easy they are just getting better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m a 9am-9pm friend. I’m not about the night life and not a drinker. At all. I’m a home body & a nature girl. I love doing spontaneous/adventurous things though. So, I’d probably take them to get some breakfast at Homegrown, then go hiking at Amicalola Falls or Powers Island Trail, eat again at Roc South, ride the scooters in the city, go skating at Cascade & have a photo shoot, end it with my boyfriend (who’s a chef) cooking us dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My trainer KB, who was killed in a car crash in 2013! He’s the one who saw the fire in my eyes, and lit the fuel. Helped me put my Personal Trainer signs all throughout Metro Atlanta area, threw me in to lead his group classes without preparing myself, helping me study to get my certification, shadowing him 6 days out the week.
