We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Carroll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After over a decade in the music business. I realized that in order to change the culture for the better, I had to build a brand that reflected the values I believed in. My goal of helping others build the strongest foundation possible could only be achieved this way. I gathered a group of like-minded individuals and we established a joint-venture that we believe will empower music creators.

What should our readers know about your business?
Bounce Gvng, LLC is a joint venture between an amazing group of music creators from around the world. We took the quarantine as an opportunity to build a company that caters to those who make the music industry what it is, the artists and producers, writers, engineers, and musicians. We established an online showcase platform called The Pull Up to give music creators a platform during the pandemic. We stream live every Saturday at 5pm eastern and promote their music to our social media audience. We established Gvngaroo Records, a music distribution company that allows creators to keep 100% of their royalties, share payments with collaborators, and more. We established Gvngaroo Publishing, a publishing administration company that collects global royalties for our clients and helps them establish their own publishing business, so they control their future. We established Gvngaroo Marketing, a digital marketing entity that will give music creators access to tools they need to gain real visibility for their music. It was tough but we were committed. We spent late nights on Zoom working in groups. We stepped out our comfort zones. We laughed. We cried. We argued. We made up. We really care about these issues because they hit home. We aren’t industry suits. We are building a brand that builds brands. Our goal is an equitable, fair music economy with informed artists who control their own destinies. It’s very tedious and intense to understand contracts and publishing and distribution. We had to find a tech solution and build websites from scratch. My team is truly incredible and we are very proud of what we’ve done but we are really proud of what we can help others do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is amazing because it is so versatile. There is a vibe for everyone. Breakfast is vital so I’ll be taking them to R. Thomas Grill, Cultivate, West Egg, Atlanta Breakfast Club, The Real Milk & Honey, and Flying Biscuit. Slutty Vegan is a must. Zunzi’s sandwiches are incredible! Top Spice is tops for Thai and Silver Lake Ramen is my favorite LA spot, reimagined in ATL. Orient Express has great sushi, hibachi and a koi fish pond. Fish Camp and Holeman and Finch are just the tip of the food iceberg at Ponce City Market. True Food Kitchen and Cousins Maine Lobster are the best right before or after shopping at Lenox. Don’t forget to head across the street and check out Phipps’s also! If you have a sweet tooth, Sublime Donuts on Georgia Tech’s campus is the best and it’s open late! The Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola are a must. Both are located by Centennial Olympic Park, a wonderful spot to walk around and get fresh air and exercise. Piedmont Park is a beautiful public park with tons of fun things to do. No trip to ATL is complete without a visit to Magic City! Try the Lou Will lemon pepper wings or the fried shrimp!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Taurin Gordon and Ghost, J Hatch, Drawzilla, Don Di Napoli, DJ Bedtyme 357 and DJ Ace of Spades. They gave me a boost and they gave me an avenue. When I arrived NYC from Philly I had no idea how the music business worked. They took me in and showed me the ropes. We grew together and made some amazing things happen for others. I also have to shoutout my partner, Samantha Jones. Her support and love allowed me to build my legacy. I could never repay her for all her sacrifices so that I could travel and work without distraction.
