We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Burke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, how do you think about risk?
I am an over thinker. I will step by step myself until I have rearranged my initial vision. I had to quickly learn how to take some risk in order to progress in overall life. No one like the unknown. Risk is the possibility or chance of loss, danger, which is an eye opener for anyone. However, “POSSIBILITY” is the key word. There is not a definite and it is still a chance of success in the midst of leaping. I am a new author of a self published suspense novel titled “Drowning Alive.” I cradled my manuscript for almost 2 years before actually releasing to the world because of fear. I pondered and edited but because I self published, I didn’t want to risk failing due to not professionally having the manuscript tailored. I prayed and presented it to the world on Barnes and Noble and Amazon. That risk has been such a rewarding experience and I have truly learned that it’s always that possibility to count on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am Active Duty ARMY National Guard. With my profession, I have learned discipline. I live my life through my ARMY values; LDRSHIP. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage. My brand is built from this. I have faced and am currently facing obstacles that if I stay true to LDRSHIP with prayer, it’s no possibility of failing. I see miracles and a bright future in my new profound profession as a self published writer and author. Look forward to a variety of reads that will have you coming back for more.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not much of a food critic but my Bestfriend and Chef CaTria Inyang will definitely receive a call from me regarding great food. Now let’s get to the fun! We would zip line, nature walk, horseback ride, fence and enjoy a beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents allowed me to perfect my craft by writing letters to them as a child. Akiva Stallings read my very first manuscript and critiqued me even when I didn’t want to hear it. Jerod Rozier prayed and refocused me whenever I detoured. My supportive family Jontrez Burke(husband) and children Skylar Isaac and Sage Burke cheered me on and made me think I can do anything in the world because they have my back.
