We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney and Shera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney and Shera, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Our program is designed to be a proactive approach to helping educators, parents and children implement strategies to promote social/emotional wellness. Our social skills groups focuses on promoting and and practicing strategies for children with challenges with understanding how to cooperatively play, communicate, regulate emotions, and create friendships. Our program is inclusive so we serve students of diverse abilities during critical early intervention period. We understand that learning starts young and teaching social/emotional lessons are just as important if not more important as academics. We educate early learners on how to properly respond to conflicts and exercise self control when faced with adversity by using fun games and activities. These social/emotional tools are life skills as we see our youth struggle to understand how to properly communicate with others and and stay calm. Our message is of kindness and we aim to create young individuals that understand empathy and tolerate differences. Our classroom consulting aims to educate teachers on how to create a positive atmosphere for students and proactively implementing social/emotional skills inclusively into the daily routine. Our business helps our community and world because we are teaching them how to be kind and emotionally balanced individuals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We both have a passion for early intervention and children with diverse needs! We love working with children and creating relationships with families! We both have a background in early childhood development and are trained in applied behavior analysis. Being in this field can have a lot of challenges especially working with children with behavioral challenges. We overcame those obstacles by always remembering that not everyone has a voice and that children are not ready made and that we can be that voice for them to help others understand that. We want the world to know that every child is different and learns at his or her own pace. Though academics are taught we also forget to teach our children how to be a good person or how to be a good friend. In a world where bullying is at an all time high we want to show children there’s a better way to express your feelings, to communicate with peers and adults and also that we have to learn how to handle stress and conflicts. We believe these tools and skills can be taught very early and we are hear to show the world how to do just that!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love the beltline! The diversity on the beltline is so inspiring along with the beautiful artwork you can see along the way! We love to take a stroll on the beltline and then stop and have lunch at just about any restaurant! Ponce city market is another stop to have a quick bite and check out the shops! Hanging out at the Battery is also an awesome stop to check out a Braves game and then grab some dinner at the Yard House!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to thank our families and friends for all their encouragement and support! Without their support we wouldn’t have made it this far! We also want to thank our wonderful families that have trusted us with working with their children!
