We had the good fortune of connecting with Cortney Hendrix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cortney, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up is not an option for me. I started my first esthetic career at ULTA Beauty. I was number 2 in the district and was headed to number 1 in the district. I had people traveling to me just to get a facial/makeup done. Then when the pandemic hit I got shut down. Even through my circumstances I didn’t give up. I kept pushing myself by the grace of God. Sometimes in life you got to be your own motivation. I know what I want out of life and I’m not giving up until I reach my full potential.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Licensed Esthetician. I deal with skin and makeup. What sets me different from others. I like to incorporate skin into makeup. I work with a lot of brides. I have skin and bridal consultations. I work with the bride skin, give them steps, and what products to use. I stay consistent with checking on my brides until wedding day. So when wedding day comes, my bride skin will be flawless, and the makeup will be beautiful. I focus on skin first and makeup second. A lot of times women who don’t like their makeup. Really doesn’t have anything to do with the makeup artist. It has a lot to do with their skin. This is why I work with a lot brides to get there skin ready for makeup. I also do skin consultations and makeup individually. I love to see the difference in what I can do with the skin. This is why I it will always be skin first and makeup second.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would love for us to travel to the Mountains. I love the winter time and I would love to take her to Pigeon Forge Tennessee. Known as the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s so much you can do up there. We will go to Dollywood, Hollywood Wax Museum and the Titanic Museum Attraction. My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love the fact that Pigeon Forge have Christmas stores and Christmas Hotels. For something to eat I would love for us to go to the Local Goat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I wouldn’t be the Woman of God I am today. I lost my big brother at the age of 14 years old and he wanted nothing but the best for me. Even through his death, I kept pushing myself. Nicholas Foster, I love you dearly. To my Mentor, a Powerful Woman of God, Evangelist Melanie Griffin. I love you and thanks for being with me every step of the way. To my Sister in Christ, Tiffany Pound. Thank you for your words of encouragement. To my Husband, Wesley Hendrix I love you so much. Thanks for believing me. I couldn’t have done this without you. To my sister Artisha Williams, thanks for helping with my business and just being there for support.
